Let us know if you are of those who can generate a badge in a day.
----------------------------------------Bronze, Silver, Gold, or even more. I can Silver in a day. My target is to have Gold in a day. Not there yet my best shot is 4 hours shy of 78 days of runtime in a day. ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by Hypernova at Mar 31, 2010 9:23:25 AM] |

I think I can saphire in a day if the project will release enough work for me. The real question is, why are folks so overpowered. For me, it's a business that needs to have capacity available on demand. Seeing that capacity go unused is painful. I'd hate to see people upgrading their home rigs to get more points, when most of us can do just fine with an ATOM processor for our day-day uses.

I think I can saphire in a day if the project will release enough work for me I hope they do give you enough WU's when your system is available for WCG. Thank's again for your very important contribution to WCG. After all the objective is not just crunching but also to do the projects and as we finish them have other ones. Btw you can even do the next 5 year badge in a day. I looked at your Yesterday result and with 5 years 55 days you just qualify for that badge when it comes. For me, it's a business that needs to have capacity available on demand. Seeing that capacity go unused is painful I fully understand your feeling, but business is business. Nevertheless I need some clarifications. When you have no demand on your data center, does still your power consumption remain at same level or you idle at very low consumption level. In short does your datacenter electrical energy consumption jump in a significant way when switching to WCG or not. If your business model means that you have to keep the machines running anyway even when there is no demand and that on the electrical energy bill there is little difference between idling or WCG processing, then yes I would be also horribly frustrated. I am ready to write a letter to your bosses if this is really the case. I'd hate to see people upgrading their home rigs to get more points, when most of us can do just fine with an ATOM processor for our day-day uses. For some like me it is a way to donate by participating instead of writing a cheque to a charity. And points badges etc. is the fun part of it. Others will spend their money on gambling, speculating on the stock exchange etc. you name it. What a waste, but everybody is free to use their money as they wish and I really have no problem with that. We are a free society. This makes then even more valuable the actions of those who do upgrade their home rig to be used for a humanitarian cause. ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Hypernova at Mar 15, 2010 8:11:03 AM] |

Yesterday was a gold in a day with a runtime of 91 days.
----------------------------------------I managed that only three times since crunching for WCG. My average runtime went from around 40 at the start of 2010 to 85 three months later. The target is to reach by end April gold in a day in sustained mode. That will be the maximum I can get out of my system. The absolute peak record runtime day stands at 150 days 22 hrs made on the 15th of March 2010. If you have also particular peaks over your average keep us posted. It is very interesting to see the kind of peak individual variations we can get over the grid. I see these peaks like Soliton Wavess for those who are familiar with physiscs, or also what is called Rogue Waves that appear in the oceans. These are unpredictable waves that appear from cahotic combinatorial behavior of sea waves. These solitary waves can be up to 30 meters high (appearing in relative calm sea so up to 1000% over average) and when they slam on ships, they can destroy or capsize and sink them. Larger ships will resist but can suffer big damage. For a long time their existence was a matter of discussion but now they are being tracked by satellites and have been proven not only to exist but some theories have appeared to explain how and where they can be produced. We have a large pool of members at WCG with very unpredictable behavior. There are many many parameters in play and they all interfere. So we should have also these kinds of phenomena. After all WCG is a non linear physical dynamic system. Perfect for all type of cahotic phenomena. The WCG Rogue Wave that slammed on me on the 15 of March 2010 was as follows: Runtime 205% OA (Over Average of previous 7 days) Points 229% OA Returned Results 193% OA But I have another Rogue Wave that slammed on the 22nd March 2010 where only the Returned results were affected. Returned Results 222% OA Again it can be explained as a conjunction of many very short CPU timed WU across the machines and simultaneous to the various projects, with a cumulation of PV being released all together. Any way it is not predictable even if it can be explained. Anyway I love those Rogue Waves. Should have more coming ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Hypernova at Mar 31, 2010 9:41:32 AM] |

I think, I should manage to get Bronze in one day if I turn on my two notebooks and don't compile any Java applications at work. Unfortunately I'm working as application engineer in a very large project. So most time the cores are occupied with compiling or deploying. I definately need more computers. :-)

This is what we do and what we spend our money on. Now when in the winters we lose power here and that happens at least once a winter I turn on the generator(5500w,30A) and run just my Sossaman machine..2-31w Yonah laptop cpus in a Intel server board.. Less than 100w draw at 100% load and $200.00 to build. The perfect low power machine but computational power like 65% of a Q6600 quad. ![]() |

Marc maybe you can reach that goal over the week end or during holidays. Easter week-end is coming that can be an opportunity to just have them run alltogether if they can be freed.
----------------------------------------Bronze in a day is a nice challenge to have believe me. When I first reached that target I could not stop any more. ![]() ![]() |
