Hi to all,
the question is especially addressed to Sekerob, because I read in another thread he was referring to a tool included in Boinc able to reduce the CPU usage to avoid overheating. If I didn't understand wrong, if I put "use at most 100% of the CPU" and (also?) "use at most 100% of the time of CPU" in the preferences, Boinc is managing the workload in a way to prevent overheating. I have a laptop working on Rice now heating very much (sometimes I found it switched off automatically!), it is correct my understanding? Thanks L. |

Hi latakia,
----------------------------------------Yes, you set all in the BOINC client (and or website device profile) to maximum, processors, cpu time, run when in use etc. Then you install TThrottle, with admin rights!, which you set to a ceiling temperature (my laptop is set to 70C). TThrottle will then lower the available cycles (time slicing) for the science apps so they never cause the CPU to go above that target temperature. It will automatically recognize BOINC science apps, but you can manually add them to the table too. Get it here: http://efmer.eu/boinc/ On the official 3rd party add-on page of the BOINC developers. PS: Sony VAIO can get hot at the power adapter socket when the connection has worn and then switch off too. Had to have that fixed (adapter replacement program)

As the case may be, if you have multiple devices and from same tool maker BOINCTasks, you can monitor the TThrottle temps from remote. Only need to set BT to enable the remote reading feature. Can see from my desktop that the lappie is doing 66C at the moment with a 95% run time efficiency, i.e. it's running near 100%.
