Re: Why did wu error?

Had 7 of these in the end,so some 32 hours of crunch time dumped,
But the good news they have all been completed by new wing men and the project moves on.
Not so happy about the techs sloppy attitude on this ,seemingly ignoring the whole episode.
Chris.

Re: Why did wu error?

The sloppy attitude is never very well taken. The technical expert for the project is AFB for a few days. He'll then look into this, maybe just needing to rerun the validations manually.

Re: Why did wu error?

I am a little bit shocked by remarks like "sloppy attitude of the technical staff".
Based on the project size, after several contribution years, I have to write here that WCG constitutes an exemplary platform and initiative.
Currently 7 projects are running simultaneously. The platform has a very high availability (even if we experience some troubles this morning).
About the technical staff, we read only from time to time some posts; we know some (nic) names!
I think that some better recognition about the performed hard work would be welcome! (why not a page presenting the WCG staff?).

As members, we freely decided to join WCG for contributing to life science projects we are considering as important. I agree with the wish not to waste any crunching hours. Nonetheless, I think that loosing some hours because of WU problems perhaps one or twice yearly is not so vital that it justifies to become unfair with the staff members.
Please, be careful by commenting (or before criticizing) too hardly WCG support.
Enjoy,
Yves

Re: Why did wu error?

Hi KerSamson
Agree with you
I have to write here that WCG constitutes an exemplary platform and initiative.

which is why it was chosen over others of similar aims.
Where in my post was I complaining over the wasted hours?
It has happened before many times and will happen again nothing is perfect ( [Except maybe me tongue )
The reason for the comment was the lack of interest the techs had shown in communicating with the crunchers.
How long does it take to write for example
"we are aware of the situation and are looking into it"
I make that less than 10 seconds.
Over a four day period myself and probably others were not sure what to do and the very important project suffers as a result.
Chris.

Re: Why did wu error?

Actually, I'll accept blame for this one. I saw the validation error hit on Friday morning and started investigating but got overwhelmed with two more significant issues and didn't do a hand off for the investigation of the issue to one of the other members of the support team. The issue was a one time problem with access to the filesystem which had been resolved. However, that wasn't communicated. Additionally, as this error was on our end we generally award credit and that wasn't done until yesterday. So I apologize for letting down our usual standard.
