Bearcat,
A couple of questions, has this machine always experienced this issue, or has it only started lately. Also how many concurrent workunits do you run and does that seem to have any effect on runtime? We are working on some general performance improvements to the HCC code we got from the researchers. I can't say for certain when they will be released but should be sometime in the next several months. If we can't solve the issue before then it may be worth trying the new release when it is available. Thanks, armstrdj |

It started lately but moved on to a different project. I have 8 real cores crunching one one project at a time. Am on HCMD2 now. Was getting long run times there too but would adjust its time within a few hours. I will be back crunching HCC after I get sapphire in the other project.

A few projects... Do Mac's have power saving features that switch the CPU up and down, either through hardware or OS control. We've seen a few reports lately, one was Windows 7.

Shut down my mac while on vacation for 5 days. Came back and started on this project again. After downloading the wu's, it showed a little over 2 hrs to crunch. Got off work to see how it was going. My 2 hr wu's turned into 12 hr wu's. Am on 6.2.18. The message area does not reveal any problems. Will the boinc logs (can't remember the names) show any info about possible processor reduction? Might pull the plug on the mac until snow leopard 6.3 gets released and try again. Am using leopard 5.8 right now. Been looking for a program that monitors the processor and logs any change but not finding anything yet.

Checked completed wu's that took 14 hrs. My wingman took 2 hrs so I aborted what I had and moved to a different project. Not sure whats with this project and my mac but definately something is wrong. Moved over to rice and will see how that goes but leave my ubuntu box running this.

Find a tool that can monitor page file errors and kernel time under OS-X. Those are the source of performance losses that were omnipresent on all platforms early in HCC, then largely removed, dramatically improving performance, at least under Windows. They're flying under W7-64 bit, mostly in the quorums I see faster, sometimes full 2 to 3 times to the wingman.
