Elapsed or CPU time? Depends on the client version as to what you see in the project tab of BOINC Manager.
----------------------------------------No reason but thinking your Mac hit an long WCG job after a series of shorties which temporarily screws up the TTC (Time to complete) planning. Just let is run. If jobs checkpoints now and then you're fine... HCC checkpoints do get progressively further apart as the jobs get closer to the end. There's no indicators that the project is handing out tougher targets. The mean run times just vary just by a few hundreds of an hour. Last 10 days average job duration: date/duration 18th 5,528640 19th 5,590110 20th 5,632164 21st 5,551897 22th 5,642798 23rd 5,532921 24th 5,515898 25th 5,570962 26th 5,572539 27th 5,580710

because PC > Mac What OS is PC? Intel hardware is Intel hardware. Do you mean windows > os x? There again, you would be wrong. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jan 29, 2010 4:23:08 AM] |

PC is running win 7 ultimate RC1. Mac OS X 5.8. The long run times are actual time. Anywhere from 9 to 14 hours. All of the WU's on the mac are like this as well as new ones added. The mac is a 2.8ghz dual quad core and the PC is 2.5ghz dual quad core. Windows will never be better than OS X. NEVER!

Maybe your Mac is so > that it's kicking into low energy i.e. reduces the CPU cycles because it sees the science processes as not so important and runs them in extra extra nice. Had that initially on a laptop whereon I installed the >> W7 and needed RightMark to get the cycles up to max... until I found the compatible drivers for << Vista that worked under >> W7.

You may find out that these tasks do not actually last 16h.
I expect there is a quirk in the 6.10.x versions of BOINC. At some point my PPC suddenly insisted that my Rice WUs (8-9h) were going to last 16-17h. They didn't of course, but on a computer connecting to the internet once a week the resulting scheduling problem is not amusing I can assure. |

Bearcat,
----------------------------------------Test: How do your Mac's run times compare to the wingman? Click on the Work Unit name link on the Result Status page to see. Do verify that the run times of these other projects you're switching to match up with the wingmen and are not 3-4 times longer. What you most probably see is that if the benchmark of the client reflects normal performance, but the tasks actually executing much slower, the total "normal credit per hour" is spread out over more hours, so whilst you were getting half, the per hour may have been a quarter or less of that of your wingman. At any rate, there is no plausible reason why a Mac Quad core takes 16 other then a very low CPU cycle execution.

I switched to HCMD and saw the WU's were 16 hours. Got up this morning and the unfinished ones dropped to 8 hours. This is weird. Can I update boinc while I have wu's pending to be crunched?
