How long have they been running?
They need to return (and I think validate) at least one WU and then they will show up after the next stats update. If you are still not seeing them after that point then it may be time to investigate how you set them up, meaning did you use the same exact account information? |

Created devices, which is when a device ID is assigned and shows near the start of the BOINC message log appear
----------------------------------------- 1st in the My Grid > Device Manager (use the selection filters to also see older). - 2nd in the Result Status page when tasks are assigned (identified as In Progress) - 3rd, start showing in the My Statistics > Device Statistics, when work has validated for that device/host and the 12 hourly statistics update run has completed. Of course, if you look in the client, there is the member level credit [not points] and the device (host) level credit which is updated with each client/server contact. For those with client version 6.10 [tested by WCG presently], go to project tab (advanced/grid view), select WCG and hit the Properties button in left margin to see more running data (see FAQ's for the detail/screenshot).

[OT!] Sounds semi familiar... think it's in those Famous FAQ's collected in the Start Here forum index, to include one that discusses screwed up run time projections[/OT]
----------------------------------------@DrDoLittle 99, The relevant FAQ on devices have in the same index been enhanced to incorporate some of what I said in my previous post... the order of where devices appear first, next, after. hasta la pasta (late for lunch now ;>)

3 Questions:
----------------------------------------Can you remove devices from the list permanently ? Can you select to show devices ? Can you merge devices ? For anyone (me) wanting to remove devices that are no longer in use (From All Lists). I appear to have 30 installations, when I don’t. 30 is just the total number of devices that I installed Boinc on over the last 2 years and 10months. On many occasions I installed Boinc, ran a few tasks, to confirm computer reliability (aka burn in software), then uninstalled Boinc and passed the system on. In fact I did this at least 8 times, and probably about 12 to 15 times. I also got rid of old systems, reinstalled new operating systems, and renamed computers more than once (fresh installs being a personal preference). So I would like to delete obsolete systems, and merge some computers in the same way I can with other Boinc projects. - I have tried to use search to find these things out. - Wiki suggests an absence of a merge feature for the WCG! skgiven, in a word no, I suffer from the same problem you do, only I try to talk the client into joining the team when I return their box, if they agree, I leave it running, if not I remove it, about 85% agree to continue.
----------------------------------------I can't find the post, but have seen that due to the reporting/tracking requirements, merging/deleting hosts is not acceptable on the device manager page, if you change the 2 pull downs at the top to "All" it will show all your devices, active and inactive, but I don't know of a way to make this the default choice. - I have tried to use search to find these things out. Have you tried a search like this one, for example? Search on merge or merging in posts title - Wiki suggests an absence of a merge feature for the WCG! I presume you mean this wiki? Host identification and merging If so it does not suggest, it states (and it states correctly) that there is no merge capablity in WCG.Regarding your other questions Can you remove devices from the list permanently ? which lists are you talking about? Can you select to show devices ? In the Device Manager and in the Device Statistics there are filters that hide old devices by default, and if the default filtering is not restrictive enough you can select on the last three days for both filters. Another place where a list of devices is used is the device filter of the Results Status page but I think the popup includes only those devices for which there are results to show, or maybe the "recent" devices as defined by the filters in the lists above. Anyway, for me, it offers only the devices that are really in use. What am I missing in your questions? |

What is very confusing is that when we look at member profiles we see a number of devices which do not represent the reality. That number is completely useless from my point of view as it cannot be related to anything. It is the number of all devices that contributed one day to WCG as long as they returned 1 single WU. So what? With projects lasting over years this number makes even less sense.
---------------------------------------- What is very interesting is to know how many devices are active on a daily basis. This means that we get the count of devices that have sent WU's on a given day. In this way we can relate the Yesterday performance in terms of Points, Returned Results, and Runtime to a number of active devices that contributed on the same day. Than we can build an interesting ratio per device and compare between members. Those numbers will make real sense. WCG knows exactly for each member which device has returned a result on a given day so this number is straightforward to refresh when stats are done in the member statistics. You could have for devices two choices All-Time and Yesterday like it is already done for Runtime, Points etc... ![]() ![]() |

Jean, you may be missing the fact that this is a DEVICE LISTING thread. I want to errase non-existing devices, that are listed in the several places previously mentioned, as do others.
Did you read the little piece at the bottom of the Wiki page? - This page was last modified 03:28, 2 May 2008. That is quite a while ago! Who knows, perhaps someone might have updated the WCG website or db in the last 20months? Stats could be attributed to the user account directly without the need to retain meaningless data (such as computers that now belong to someone else or have been recycled). |
