It's an interesting idea, but it's not as straightforward as that.
----------------------------------------For one thing , even if you could create new technology that improves the processing speed , that doesn't mean everyone is going to use those right away. Computer manufacturers may already be able to create very fast computers, but they will only bring them on the market is there is demand for it. It would be like creating a pc with 1 gb ram in 1981 : no one would buy it, because the cost of making it would have been extremely expensive , and no one would need it. ![]() |

I think its a good idea, but WCG may not be the appropriate 'project' for it. If it were, some scientist(s) would approach WCG with the idea if they wanted it done.
----------------------------------------I hope that there is or will be some DC project out there that works on that idea .... but we should be careful... you know .... skynet.... :p In response to the previous post, saving a big chunk of the cost of CPU research would (or should) be reflected in the price of the CPUs that take advantage of such accelerated research. And furthermore, didn't Bill Gates [in]famously say that there was no need for more than 640KB of RAM? A universal increase in the computational power at a lower cost would in turn let developers (and DC projects such as WCG) take advantage of better peforming computers. ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by TrevorWD at Jan 23, 2010 1:31:43 AM] |

ekoldo, we would be vary happy if you would add in your project list one of WCG projects. You're welcome.
