Computer Architecture Project

I would like to see a Computer Architecture Project in the same way as the Clean Energy Project. It would be good if WCG could contribute to the exponential growth of Moore's law. In the next instance it will help WCG.

Re: Computer Architecture Project

I have no idea if such a project could be technically envisaged and developed but even if possible I doubt that WCG would run it: with IBM having full control on WCG that would probably open the door to lots of suspicious worries and comments about its using members' contribution for its own business.

Just my 2 cents. Jean.

Re: Computer Architecture Project

I do agree that we must be very careful with conflict of interest issue.
If the slightest doubt appear then WCG is dead.

Re: Computer Architecture Project

WCG has a published set of criteria a project must meet even before it's taken in for proposal review... humanitarian e.g.

Re: Computer Architecture Project

Read the thread and I believe we could eliminate conflict of interests by putting a contract between IBM and the Users stating that all discoveries made in this field are of public domain and cant be privately patented however, being of public domain, they can use the knowledge to manufacture faster processors. cool

Or we could make our own P2P massive computational open source and free software, the advent of P2P wireless internet can also help with that, since it wont be necessary to have centralized servers to share internet connections, adding more machines to help us with massive processing tasks.

Sorry, I do not see how the project has any humanitarian benefits. Not going to happen.

Re: Computer Architecture Project

It could be a nice stand-alone Boinc project though...

I doubt I would throw in my cycles, but no doubt many would like to have the bragging rights "See this new fast supercool computer? I helped design the inner workings."
