All depends how you measure, but I saw a ~14% sustained improvement in the 64bit OS/Client combo (now 6.10.25), never having tried the 32bit client on that device, which I'm sure would have used not 64 bit, but 32 bit libraries.
----------------------------------------In my latest quest for upping the throughput I've disabled, against W7 warnings, the Virtual Memory. Running 4 jobs concurrently, the TaskManager still reports 2.3Gb free RAM. Object was to end / cut on disk i/o in combo with the LAIM (Leave Application on Memory, when pre-empted). There is a fractional improvement, but that's all there is. BOINCTasks, which tracks the the individual job efficiency reports a 1-2 percent improvement on all cores, even during use, rarely 10 minutes on a 7 hour job going to other things during use i.e. > 98% efficiency.

Cool Tool, but how much CPU time does BoincTasks use? Of course you will have to use Task Manager to find out, and that will use 2 or 3% in itself!
Generally, turning Off All the unnecessary W7 startup processes using CCleaner, or similar helps. I expect allowing Windows to turn off unused components, in Power Options also helps, ever so slightly. |

[OT]Advancement always comes after investment, how else can one learn what the benefit is...? It's been up 72 hours since last boot and logs in Task Manager 3:39 minutes CPU time [set at a refresh rate of once per 10 seconds], plus I've never got to touch that time hogging BOINC Manager again that uses more and which' performance get's worse the more jobs are in buffer, and have hot access now to all my clients on the WLAN... yes, I must be onto something ;>)
----------------------------------------CCleaner, now that's one tool I'd not touch with a long pole since I treasure my system registry.[/OT] I'm seeing for Mac a version 6.10.27 on the ftp download page, so guess the latest Windows client 6.10.25 still will see a few more iterations.

Cool plus Uncool hopefully leads to equilibrium :D
----------------------------------------I've progressed further in testing with some very big models that run for a long long time and see continued system stability without a VM... though, the TM continues to display swapfile errors to show that these have little to do with the disk VM... explorer and firefox have millions of them, former 9 million since boot 85 hours ago.

I have compared 32 and 64 bit machines working on Fight Aids at home working for 2 weeks. Both machines were i7 920 2.6Ghz, doing only WCG test. The 64 bit machine is on average 8% faster, counting Work Units generated.

I did not compare over 1 week or more. So the little loss is probably more a matter of fluctuation due to the fact that with NRW I saw that there are important daily fluctuation due to PV.
----------------------------------------Maybe I was to pessimistic. Should check over at least two to three weeks to be sure. ![]() |

Different computer systems are more efficient running different tasks. It primarily depends on the CPU architecture.
I tested 7 systems all using W7 64bit and found that Four preferred CMD2, but one preferred HFCC, one HPF2 and one FA@H. Similar architectures showed very similar results. The difference between the most efficient and least efficient project was usually over 20% If you run more than one type of task at once (two, three or more projects) on the same system it is more efficient, overall. I dont have a good enough understanding of the tasks to be able to match/partner tasks, so I just chose the top two for each system. Unfortunately I have not seen the expected improvement due to down time. The last time I tested tasks on both 32bit and 64bit Vista I found a 20% improvement with the 64bit OS (a Q9400 I think). |
