It's very annoying to have it pop up while I'm watching movies.

Have you tried VLC media player? It blocks screen saver by default. IMHO one of the best media players you can find. Only video format I haven't been able to use it is the blu-ray.

MY windows media player has an option / had an option to allow / disallow the screen-protection to kick in during play, both under Vista as under W7, player section of the options.

I need to turn it off out right. I watch movies through netflix. Right click on an empty place in your desktop, select "Properties", then the "Screen Saver" tag, then select "(None)" in the list. If you ever have to re-install WCG/BOINC make sure you don't select the Screen Saver option (you may have to select the Advanced installation mode for that). Cheers. Jean. |

For some platforms, "none" means a blank screen. The safest way is: "start" > "control panel" > "display" > "screen saver" > "wait" > "9999 minutes." This (theoretically) allows you to watch a film for 166 hours, 39 minutes

... or simply set that switch in e.g. Windows Media Player to stop the SS from kicking in whilst WMP is loaded, to include suspending the energy saving function of the display.
----------------------------------------No SS is bad for most who are security conscious. The Empty is better as it has the password protecting kick in after the desired number of minutes.

. . . which is even better, as you do not lose the SS in other progs.
