Question About Points

When I look at My Statistics under my profile it says I have generated 71,220 points. However, when I look at my stats somewhere like boincstats.com I have 10,175 points. When I look in my BOINC client on several of my machines the number is close....within a couple hundred points.

I understand the discrepancy between the client and boincstats.com is due to the website having not updated with new WUs. However, I do not understand the discrepancy between this site saying I have 71,220 points vs the roughly 10,000 points everywhere else.

Is the discrepancy due to work units being completed but not yet validated? Could someone please clarify this for me?

Re: Question About Points

There's a slight difference between these two. Boincstats.com shows your BOINC credits and WCG has it's own points, that are credits times 7.

Re: Question About Points

One day, WCG will convert to just carry BOINC credits... but's a dream, for 2010.

(think the problem is bigger than most appreciate. I've got 2470 Points and 13 results in the total more than the sum of the devices... where to put that?)

Determining what to do with data that does not fit the new model precisely is a very common situation in the software world. With so much time passed since UD conversion I think a reasonable balance would be to create a device for everyone in your position (mismatched points totals) named "UD" or "UD conversion" (whatever makes sense) and drop all of the extras in there. That would make the converted points easily identifiable but also tie out the details and totals. Not everyone will be happy with whatever direction WCG chooses but sometimes a conversion needs to be treated like a bandaid ... rip it off quick ... the sooner you do it the sooner the pain goes away :-)
