I don't know how many of you are on facebook and seeing your friends reposting this useless status update about "repost this if you know someone that has or had cancer, all I want for Christmas is a cure." Well we all know Santa isn't going to bring one just because a million people asked for it on facebook. I've used this as a recruiting opportunity for WCG. I've posted this in response to all of those:
Do something useful for cancer research with almost no effort on your part, join the World Community Grid. Read up & join here: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ and updated my status with this: DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT if you know someone who has or had cancer! Join World Community Grid and contribute your computers idle time to public domain research on cancer among other worthy causes. http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/index.jsp (Right now their homepage has a big banner for the AIDS research you can also deci...de to work on, read up on how it works and install it. Pick what projects you want to contribute to. It's easy, even my dear old Mom crunches.) I'd love to be able to get some new recruits to the research effort and maybe we can use this Secret-inspired "want it and it's bound to happen" thing to get some tangible results ! Help in the public effort ! |

It's easy, even my dear old Mom crunches.) Well said Don the Sixteenth I guess the grid computing is still a bit too high tech for most people. And many haven't ever even heard of it. But there will definitely be a lot of interest towards it, when the threshold is put low enough. -mika

There is no need to wait to promote WCG on Facebook.
----------------------------------------Maybe some already know this. If you have a Facebook page, and type in the URL for a project, Facebook will pick up the link, with maybe even a thumbnail picture. You can write a brief message promoting a project and try to get your non-cruncher "friends" interested. |

well said don_xvi , I posted it on my both account (real one and the one for gaming), I also sent 1000+ invites to all my friends hope at least some will get into WCG. I belive if we all send invites to our friends we can really make a difference (for example my computer is old and I submit 1-2 result to WCG per day) but if I can make 10 people join and they submit 1-2 results a day then I made a difference, but hey thats just me :)

There is facebook application of World Community Grid, as well as one from Grid Republic, that has World Community Grid as one of it´s subprojects. I would suggest to all crunchers adding at least one of them on their Facebook profile. Also, there is World Community Grid - join it. Keep up great work!

I have seen this and in my inbox also AND I do direct them here to WCG projects, Dreamlab and click to donate and as soon as I want to include something useful and productive in the Chain they have created they all get silent. I try to get my friends and non crunchers involved even posting on my Pages and in groups from time to time but a lot of them have no clue as to how to run all this. I think that might be part of the problem. I was trained to download and run beyond that I myself am clueless. When I have helped friends in the past download and run the Boinc it took literally hours and a lot of them were still clueless. don_xvi also point out to them that even Jesus said... And you will do Greater Works than me. So far Scientists, doctors and literal healers are the ones I'm seeing doing the "Greater Works". He said do not pray but do them, literally. It makes no sense to me at all when people ask a god to save them when they have the power to save themselves. I DO try posting the links to here and helping when I get those messages and we also have to remember that not everyone has a powerful computer like others. I'm in fact just a Mom who wants to help because Cancer killed my mother. I also feel it's my duty and rent on this planet to help and make my time here really matter. It's also too bad that there are thousands of Government computers running 24 seven doing nothing when they could all be Boincing! I've asked about this and am told the same thing that it's against Government Policy. Ok well then change the policy. It's time! It's time for change. --- End of rant

don_xvi, I have even gone into a lot of the groups that are against animal testing and have said and posted... "Use the Boinc not animals! Please help!" I have tried wording and luring so you all might also want to target those types of groups also. The Pro-animal groups. I keep trying and it gets really frustrating when I keep saying here is a solution and am ignored. It's too bad as it's said above that Companies can't "Game For A Cure". I've written to Blizzard a few times regarding this but we are going to have to find companies who care. Sorry I do not post here often as I'm a very busy Mom. I came here to ask a question and saw this post looking for the thread where I posted my question because I lost where it was. Keep going don_xvi !! Keep posting!! I want a cure for the Holidays also but we are only going to get back what we put into it.
