I have about 64 HCC work units which are in "Pending Validation" status. They date from the 7th of December back to 30th of November.
----------------------------------------Should I be worried (that I will never get the credits requested) or such a time delay (up to seven days) is to be considered normal. Any ideas? Hypernova ![]() |

It's quite normal - as your WU's will probably be waiting on your wingman completing their copy.
----------------------------------------If you click on one of the WU's you're seeing in your PV queue, that should show as to when the other copy will be expected to be completed by. If it isn't completed by the due date, another copy will be sent out (with a shorter time limit). Don't worry, you will get your credit - it may just take slightly longer than you expected... ![]() |

Hello Hypernova,
Pending Validation is a non-deterministic state that depends on other people returning their copies in a timely fashion. (See Start Here about Quorums.) Once everything is returned, the validation is normally done within less than 24 hours. However, there is a bug that we have never tracked down that sometimes skips some units that need validating. We have implemented a quick fix that examines all units that have been waiting for validation for 10 days or more. So no, don't worry, Pending Validation can last for a long time. Try clicking on a few units to see what is holding up the quorum. The copies have probably not been returned yet. Lawrence |

Lawrence,
----------------------------------------Think forced PV verification [if quorum complete] is now invoked by visiting the Result Status page. Not heard if knreed has made that change from the manual "try validation now" which he described as low taxing on the system.

Thank's for your replies. I feel better. Important to have all those watts spent for good use.

On the other hand, I have two older, slower machines that take 18 to 35 hours to complete an HCC work unit, and ALL of the results those machines generate are PV, AFAICT. One remained PV until it fell off my results status list for being too old (returned 12/2), and I still have about 135 hours of HCC results in PV state. These machines are slow enough that I'd expect them to return their results after companions return their copies. However, four of their companion tasks are reportedly "waiting to be sent", including all of the oldest tasks. That's strange.
----------------------------------------In sharp contrast, newer computers that complete HCC work units in 6 hours or less have uniformly had their results validated, usually within a day. The pattern is so striking that I've lost confidence in HCC ever giving credit for work done by the slower machines, and have put the slow machines back to work on nutritious rice. That my fast machines get validated quickly and my slow machines don't suggests that HCC is cleverly distributing tasks with some attention to the speed of the clients. Nevertheless, I cannot tell that HCC is ever validating my slowly returned results. Would be glad to dedicate the slow machines to HCC if their results are going to be useful, but would like to know for sure that the results are used - need to see PV status resolved before the task falls off the result status list.

I have some machines which routinely take 17 hours to complete HCC and thay have all validated.

When you go to look at that, click on that WU.. I've sometimes found that I can click to try to validate a WU.

When you go to look at that, click on that WU.. I've sometimes found that I can click to try to validate a WU. Certainly not if its peer has yet to be sent (reread WS's post). WS, that seems to show that the techs have enabled device matching on HCC too and that there are not enough devices in this slowest category. If so you do right using them on other projects not using device matching. By the way what are their configuration characteristics (processor and OS)? Cheers. Jean. |

I've had several HCC jobs with a slow partner and the wingman job expiring i.e. repairs/make up jobs. It's an interesting observation if the technique developed for HCMD for another reason is applied for additional sciences. Was observing curious developments in the various performance charts suggesting more power per cycle is boarding or a side effect of this translating into more credit per hour with a slight step change from this longer going trend. (see WCGCPH chart through WCG Global below).
----------------------------------------BTW, I think there is fuzzy logic that if within a certain time frame there is not wingman in same class it will be pushed out to a device anyhow. Just maybe there is a higher number of none or later returns. They will find a match, it just statistically takes a bit longer to find quorum... but it could be over-caching too versus the daily amount of On-Time. It's weekend anyhow so I usually see an increase in PV and a big drop on Monday :D
