Snow Leopard on MacBook Pro broke Boinc

When I installed snow leopard on my MacBook Pro (MAC OS X version 10.6) BOINC was no longer connected and I received a message stating I needed to reconnect. I have tried several times and always get an error message at the end stating it could not connect to the client. I completely uninstalled BOINC and started all over. Same error message. Any ideas?

Re: Snow Leopard on MacBook Pro broke Boinc

This has been known for a while. Please refer to this thread for additional information. http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/...ad,26633_offset,20#258439 and http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/...ead,28071_offset,0#259323
You may also want to consider intalling the most recent BOINC for Mac available. Please remember the lastest BOINC Mac version from their site may not be WCG supported.

Re: Snow Leopard on MacBook Pro broke Boinc

I had the same issue, according to the links so did everyone else who tried the WCG-supplied client version (6.2.18) on Snow Leopard.

I installed the latest version (6.10.21) from here: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php , it worked with no issues.

Re: Snow Leopard on MacBook Pro broke Boinc

Some of you may still have had trouble getting Boinc to run properly on Snow Leopard on your Mac, even after installing version 6.10.21. Apparently, in some cases, the old files prevent it from working properly. You first need to completely remove (uninstall) BOINC from your Macintosh:

0. Quit running any Boinc component
1. Move the following files to the trash:
2. BOINCManager.app (from your /Applications/ folder)
3. BOINCSaver.saver (from your /Library/Screen Savers/ folder)
4. BOINC Data/ folder (from your/Library/Applications Support/ folder)
5. BOINC.pkg (from your /Library/Receipts/ folder)
6. Open the Accounts pane in the System Preferences (accessible from the Apple menu), and remove BOINCManager from your list of Login Items (or Startup Items under OS 10.3.)
7. Open System Preferences from the Apple menu. Select Desktop & Screen Saver and select a different screen saver."

Reboot the machine.

Install version 6.10.21 or a newer version:
Boinc 6.10.21 download for Mac

The problem is supposed to be fixed in version 6.10.24, but that is currently still considered an unstable version. Sorry for the inconvenience.
