Vaio--- If you like to run with decent crunching power AND like variety then check out Base Camp. They have a thread in teams section.  I guarantee you WON'T outproduce the Base Campers  What Vaio said...and most [EDIT:...a lot of] BaseCampers are also members ofSeriousCrunchers we are BoincWide...yet very home town friendly. Most SeriousCrunchers have a Quad or 6, and we have a GPU contingency...(I'm personally running one 'Phenom X4' with another sitting by waiting on a MoBo along with...hhhmmmm at least 12 more Cores... running currently)and I'm kicking out 50K+/day ATI GPU....at last look I was around # 5 of 20 something teamwide...you want some competition???? bring it on Tex!!!!!! Personally I think there are quite a lot of people with great amount of points. I have had to do seriously crunching with my old quad just to across the 10k line in the points statistics. Eight hours a day isn't enough to get you anywhere near the top. Even with i7  cheers mika I've only been on WCG for about a month (of which about 2 weeks was actually crunching) and I'm already around the top 28% percentile in terms of points. Yes, ranked 138K isn't impressive, but I haven't been on here that long. Considering, you can get a quad-core desktop with no OS for less than $500, I could very easily double my daily point count and make even greater headway. When I see that it gets harder to make it up in the rankings, I will just get another desktop. Athlon X4 620s CPUS are $100. Considering the i9 and hex-cores are due out in Q2 2010, quads are going to get even cheaper. All I have running is my Q6600 and sometimes my Pentium M 1.73 GHz laptop. As previously stated, I don't pay for electricity and considering how fast prices are dropping with computer parts, buying "a lot of rigs" doesn't entail as much cash as it once did.

Don't really care about the Top 100. Top 5000 is okay enough.
Money is no object for me. |

20 or so quads should get you near the top 100 3 or 4 quads generating 30K-50K points a day may not get you in the top 100, but I would think you're going to generate more points than most people. |
