If I purchased a computer for the sole purpose of running BOINC, could that be written off as a tax deduction (in the US)?

Hello jimblor,
The WCG is not listed as a charitable organization with the IRS. Even if it ewere,it would be difficult to charge off a computer unless you donated it to the WCG. A lot of members thought about this when the WCG was first started. None of us were tax lawyers, but our layman's understanding of the matter led us to a consensus - not possible. Lawrence |

Folders have been trying to get tax write offs for years without success, so the chances are extremely slim.
