Email button [Resolved]

Why does the forums continue to pick up my old email address?

I've never allowed my email address to be shown on the forums. I was a little worried about spam. I decided to run a test...

  • I created a new email account for here on the forums.
  • I went to My Member Profile to change the email listed.
  • I went to My Forum Profile to allow my email address to be shown.
  • I found an old thread of mine. It showed the old email address when I hovered over the email button.
  • I went back to My Member Profile. It showed the new email address, but I noticed something that said the changes wouldn't take effect until BOINC communicated with the servers.
  • I brought up BOINC > Projects tab > highlighted WCG > clicked the Update button > went to the Messages tab > it said "10/18/2009 12:08:28 PM|World Community Grid|Sending scheduler request: Requested by user. Requesting 0 seconds of work, reporting 0 completed tasks. 10/18/2009 12:08:33 PM|World Community Grid|Scheduler request succeeded: got 0 new tasks."
  • I found another thread of mine, but it still showed the old email address when I hovered over the email button.

So, I'm not allowing my email to be shown until I get this straightened out.

BOINC communicated with the servers. It didn't report or get any new tasks, but it communicated with the servers. Is that not enough communication?

What am I doing wrong?

Re: Email button

The email address entered in My Grid > My Profile is used to determine your Cross Project ID in short CPID. If you use the same email address on all projects outside WCG, the 3rd party statistics consolidators are able to pull your contributions together without regard of your member name maybe being different on every project you participate. BOINC works kind of a spider in the web to make sure all projects know you by the same CPID, that's all it does.

Now the mail address on the forums... hmmm. What I see is that in My Forum Profile it shows the same mail address as in My Profile and I've not ticked the box... because I don't want any kind of mail from any crunching member, here or anywhere without my consent. Possibly it takes some time to pass your new My Profile to My Forum Profile would be guess or maybe a bug. I've never tried, but will visit a test account to see what happens.

ttyl.

PS, maybe the infamous cookies... clear buffer/cookie cache and sign in again.

Re: Email button

I'm baffled. First time the change was instantaneous all and everywhere, both My Profile and My Forum Profile agreeing, but upon changing it back, the new address got stuck the forum parts even though signing out, closing the page tabs, and clearing the Browser caches. Lets see if exiting the browser does anything.

Re: Email button

You were right! It had something to do with cookies. Thank you.

I signed out of the forums, closed my browser, manually cleaned my temp and temporary internet files, and ran Norton 360 file cleaner.

I came back, signed in, and went to My Forum Profile. I enabled the showing of my email address and ....

EUREKA! It is now showing the correct email address.

Again, thank you. <big kiss>

P.S.
I'll change the title to "Resolved".

Re: Email button

Well, unless I miss something, I can't claim this by any stretch of the imagination to be a feature... it's a bug! Not even editing the forum profile and ticking the box, saving, unticking the box and saving made it change the email address reverse back to the one before the change. My Profile is showing it though.

Edit: Ah so there's the Temp folder needing cleaning to... that's too much effort. This should be changing without any of these workaround contortions.

As for the kiss... I blushing easily
