Did you install service/protect with All Users permission?
----------------------------------------Suggest to un- then reinstall and specifically state the Data Directory to be on the drive of your choice into a directory path that is x:\ProgramData\BOINC. For Vista the default is C:\ProgramData\BOINC. error 1304 has not been reported before, but suspect it's something with permissions on parts in your Documents and Settings structure where usually the individual user files are stored. Here's one googled result of the many to fix this: http://www.smartcomputing.com/TECHSUPPORT/detail.aspx?guid=&ErrorID=22282 from http://www.google.it/search?q=error+1304&...cial&client=firefox-a and a BOINC related search leading to a topic at SETI http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=50929

The third thread is promissing. I can open the named BOINC directory manually, but as soon as I try to install BOINC it locks up again.

Probably the permissions did not propagate properly. I've chosen expressly not to put the BOINC data in the Documents / Settings structure and instead put it in it's own C:\ProgramData\BOINC. Uninstall and reinstall pointing the Data directory, not the program directory at that location.
----------------------------------------Here a wiki with a screenshot of the initial options http://wcg.wikia.com/wiki/Installation Opposed to what's said there, I prefer, unless you want to have explicit restrictions, to select 'all users' to have the rights.

I did every thing that has been mentioned before and I am now really stuck.
I can not delete the present application via Software, I can not install the new software. Every time I have set the required privelages for every body, the Boinc directory under All Users is fully assesable for me. I can see the contents of the directory. As soon as I start to install the installation runs into error 1304. If I create a new directory c:\program Data\Boinc\ then I fill this directory with the data from All Users, then the installation goes on but in the end it stops again on the old directory under All Users\Application data. So I wait for somebody having another suggestion. If not I have to delete the present data and have a full new install with loss of the data present in my system (3 jobs). Jaap |

Microsoft " Windows Install Clean Up" may help out on this. Think loosing the 3 jobs with the time already spend on this would be least of the concerns.

Microsoft " Windows Install Clean Up" may help out on this. Think loosing the 3 jobs with the time already spend on this would be least of the concerns. THIS solved the problem, the Windows Install Cleanup Program. After I had run the program I could safely install version 6.6.38. It is a pitty that only a few moments before I had given up and deleted all the Boinc Stuff. Thanks to all, we are running again. Jaap New not mentioned in this thread is the use of http://www.fajo.de/portal/index.php?option=co...ew&id=6&Itemid=47 After installing this facility, it is possible to change the safety rules without leaving the normal mode of Windows XP. So no need to go into safe mode! Jaap [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Oct 16, 2009 11:50:18 AM] |
