This is the first time I ever saw more than 500,000 results returned!
Don't know if it happened before? But we are truly picking up speed. Good work everybody |

Not wanting to spoil your joy but it's a somewhat distorted number. About 35 CPU years of results were carried over from Sunday due reporting delays. Soon we'll be getting there without carry-overs :D

I still don't get it how come the numbers of workunits are the same as in the past 2 months despite the fact that the numbers of "new" computers added to WCG every week is in thousands.
----------------------------------------Even if those new computers are all old stuff (single cores, early dual-cores) we should see a substantial increase in processed workunits. One of my computers P4 2.4 GH is doing between 2-4 work units (depending on project) per day and my Laptop Dual Core 1.6GH is doing more than 6-8 per day. How old and slow are the "new" computers added to WCG? From what I see at the new members, they have an workunit monthly output almost 10 times fold more than the old members. I still think that we should have access at a Statistical Page, to look at the active number. |

To be honest damir1978 I was wondering the same thing.
Are there many members who stopped contributing? (could be temporary) Or are there indeed many "old" computers. (but still valuable to WCG). Does WCG keep track of members who don't return results for a long time? And if so stop their account to get a more accurate number of members? |

There was once the financial comptroller who stood up and admonish a group of managers
----------------------------------------"If you don't know the numbers intimately, you won't know what they're telling you, nor will you be able to talk to them when promoting your plan". My point is, you need to be familiar with each of the projects, how they move and what the techs are doing to maintain optimal grid performance. Amongst that, changing the cuts of jobs, so a target of 7 hours per job is maintained, regardless of the CPU power, or is the case with RICE, automatically fixed, or was the recent case, increasing the average run time of HCMD2 from 3 hours to 4.7 hours. Our grid average presently is ~6 hours per job, recently peaking at 6.23 hours. There are a few charts I generate to track the various metrics, including absolute and active members/devices, which tell me that we ARE growing rapidly, yesterday an absolute record in CPU time and TeraFlops, for a normal day without any spillovers from prior days included. How many work units that CPU time is cut into is like running a supermarket where you sell more 1.5 liter bottles of sparkly, taking the 1 liter bottles out of the rack. That's what WCG techs do too :D NB: Any large spike preceded by a large dip indicates an anomalous event. There's 2 showing this moment. PS: Don't think we'll see official 'active' numbers appear on the global statistics pages anytime soon, but what I do know is that WCG's are all above the BOINC wide averages.

Thanks Sekerob for explaining. I am just hoping 500,000 (or more) results will become normal soon.
Cheers Hollandia. |
