Finally got it figured out. I had to go into the Registry (didn't like doing that!) and delete: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Space Sciences Laboratory, U.C. Berkeley

I just had a look at the registry of my wee old XP machine and I found BOINC-references all over the machine.
----------------------------------------But what'd be worth trying is creating a virtual drive F:, just to get you past this error-message and maybe provoking another one... Fire up Start->Run->cmd.exe and try: C:\>mkdir test Good luck... Alex.

But what'd be worth trying is creating a virtual drive F:, just to get you past this error-message and maybe provoking another one... ..... Good luck... Alex. David, if Alex/Yalla's solution is not enough to let the installer start you might also try to use a USB key and set it as the F: drive. If it does not mount as F: directly proceed as follows to change its drive letter: Control Panel - Administrative Tools -- Computer management --- Storage ---- Disk management Then select the USB key in the displayed list, right click and select "Change drive letters and paths". Good luck. Jean. |

Thanks for all the help. WCG is again on my QX6700 and crunching on all 4 cores.
---------------------------------------- I just had to delete that thing in the registry that I mentioned in my previous post. After deleting that the install was normal. No problems.BTW, I tried CCleaner early on. It didn't do the job. I had to go into the registry and manually delete the the item causing the problem. Again, thanks to all for your ideas and help.
