Agent Issues

It was necessary for me to use Norton Back-up and restore the system to 24 hrs earlier. I lost credit for about 36 hours of processing. No biggie.

I reinstalled Rosetta in an attempt to correct the problems. No help.

The problem is that the agent is having multiple issues. Often the score is uncharacteristically low. A task will finish but then not upload with an error message that there is not sufficient resources. (Never had that before AND there should be sufficient resources.) If I attempt to manually send or shut down the system will not respond (the "an application is running"). Of course, I can not bring up Task Mgr.

After rebooting, I am not executing a task but wasted most of the night with the Agent stuck.

Any help is appreciated.

Re: Agent Issues

Hi julied,

I am no techie and it may be wise to wait for someone else to respond as well ..

When I had a not too dissimilar problem, the End Process via Task Manager did not help at all. I had to go in and remove the WCG Agent completely to get rid of the multiple issues (go into Control Panel => Add or Remove Programs => highlight the WCG Agent and then click remove).

Having then done a full shut down and restart before reinstalling the WCG Agent, things seemed to work OK. (One of my machines has Norton and touch wood that seems OK. The other one has McAfee and from time to time I do have to disable the 'Buffer Overflow Protection').

Not sure why you cannot call up Task Manager either thinking

Hang in there and I'm sure one of the others will help you soon .. good luck smile

Your team mate,

Re: Agent Issues

Hey, SAKU1303.

Thanks for the reply. Actually I reinstalled the agent several times with a hard boot each time and still no success.

My processor score is usually 161 or so. On the last task it was 94! Hell, it never got that low before even when I had Spyware Eliminator running at the same time.

I tried McAfee some time ago but there was always some incompatability issue or another. Decided to go with Norton SystemWorks and have been problem free ever since.

Btw, have you noticed that things have been exceptionally quiet on the forums of late? sleep

If I didn't know better I would swear that everyone on WCG lived here in Louisville and was out enjoying Derby week.

You would never believe how all-out the people around here get in anticipation for the Kentucky Derby. It's nice to see people of all ages getting together and having so much fun. It feels much more like Europe than the States. shock

Thanks again for the reply, buddy.

Re: Agent Issues

You might want to try some free utilities. Use Google to check out phrases like 'registry clean', 'antivirus' and 'spyware'.

Re: Agent Issues

Thanks, Mycroft, but I have already done the things you suggested. I was hoping that this may be a known issue since the only event that preceeded it was a 24 hour back-up using Norton. There is absolutely nothing else involved.

Re: Agent Issues

This does not " Sound Like " an agent problem to me. It sounds like it is external to the Agent/Rosetta; although anything is possible. If you used the add/remove programs to remove and then you went and erased the directory and reinstalled the whole thing like it were a new machine, then the odds are that it is indeed external to the WCG.

You probably did the Norton restore to prevent a re-install of the opsys and all the other programs which is probably why most people do it. It seems to me that there is probably some hook or handle somewhere in there that is horsing things up. For example, I know of no reason that WCG stuff could or should prevent you from bringing up the task manager.

A question: Did you ever try to run Rosetta as a "Service"? (That might, if you reinstalled it as a regular program, why it would "stick" and not go down.) That conceivably could have something to do with the low score as well... That is if you have somehow got multiple tasks running.

Are there any other oddities in the machines behavior? This one is puzzling. sad

You are completely correct, RT. I called a friend who said the same thing. He had me remove Rosetta, Norton & Alluria (after doing a system clean-up). We reinstalled Rosetta and it worked like a charm. Then we reinstalled Norton & Alluria. So far everything is running smoothly.

Thanks for getting back to me on this. My machine was definitely acting quite strangely. peace
