Hi,
Im new here and would like to know how this grid works? My computer is on pretty much all day and is inactive half of the time... I would like to know how long does it take to earn any point...as I see that I didnt accumulate any points yet. Ive been on here for few days only..but dont see any time adding up in my account. The are all zeros...so I am not sure if Im doing anything wrong. Anybody to help me? I would really donate my time to cancer research, as I signed for it. Veronika |

Hi Veronika,
----------------------------------------Can be as quick as the first task you complete, but latest on day 2 or 3 you should see things start trickling regularly, if the computer manages to finish tasks on daily basis. Watch the My Grid > Result Status page. What gets reported as validated there gets include in the twice daily My Grid statistics update. ciao

What do you mean by "task"....you mean in general or some specific tasks...

Welcome Veronika,
----------------------------------------A "task", is basically the same as a Work Unit (which can be in any one of the active projects). Some of these projects have Work Units (WU's) with just a single quorum - i.e., there's just 1 WU sent out, although there are some other projects (Nutricious Rice for the World - for example), that have a much larger quorum (12, I believe). Thus, in this case, until the whole quorum have been returned and validated, no points will be added into your totals. Thus, check My Grid -> Results for any results listed in either "Valid", "Pending Validation" or "Inconclusive" (there are others - although those 3 are the ones most used). Generally, the statistics get updated twice daily (at 12:00 and 24:00 UTC), and any results that have become "Valid" between the last update and the latest, will be added into your totals page.  |

To see what is happening, look at the Results Status page at My Grid - Results Status. This will let you see how others are doing on their copies of your work units. This is all explained in Start Here. Go to the index at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=21501 and select 1W ( Results Status page Tasks Progress Information ) and 1X ( Results Status page Navigation, Filtering & Analysis ) to read. Hello laila68,
I think that sums up the run time after the result has been validated. I seem to recall (not certain) that My Grid - Device Statistics shows the run time as soon as the result is returned to the server. Lawrence |
