Good morning fellow Christians and all --
Well, over the weekend I got my new Dell i7 Quad Core going and crunching WCG. It is quiet and it is fast. Still messing with the BOINC settings to keep the core temps down. I have a setting that runs pretty well, but not sure if it is optimum. Any hints or suggestions will be appreciated. lp |

Happy Easter!
---------------------------------------- littlepeaks, my computers are old, but I just go by how warm the computers and their air feel. When I run at 100% (mostly on weekends) I am able to turn the fans up one mark in the bios at startup and then they don't feel feverish to the touch. I don't know about this though. I may have to vacuum the cpu heat sink often. ![]() |

I don't know if that's normal. Might be loose HS or not enough air to remove the heat.

The Coolmaster Hyper 212 is a reasonably priced alternative that does a very good job at keeping things cool. Just make sure you have room for it. The Corsair H-50, H-60, or H-70 are sealed all in one liquid cooling systems that work well if space is an issue.

Stock fans have an idle speed option in BIOS, at least on my PCs which are old. Don't they still have it?
----------------------------------------When I turn the PC on, I hit F10 (could be different F on other systems), then it gives me the option to select the idle speed of the fans. On mine it's under 'Thermal'. Stock is the lowest, but when I run boinc at full speed I go ahead and turn it up by one mark, save changes and exit, and then it boots up with the slightly higher fan speeds. ![]() |
