Hello,
----------------------------------------Could you in the near futur, add the following information. 1. I would the average crunch time by project for my computer. 2. I think people are interested by the average time of a workunit. Thus they could choose the project by the aim but also by the crunch time. They could choose a light workunit or a heavy workunit. Thanks. ![]() |

it already exists
----------------------------------------http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/stat/viewProjects.do if you click on the project 2nd line on the avarages tab sorry reading your post again you say for your computer... that isnt very hard to check just select results status and then select the computer.. it will show you the tiimes each work unit has done for the past few days.. personaly i use the avarage for the project itself and extrapilate how my computers normaly avarage vs the avarage of the project. also personaly i normaly select a project cause im eithor badge hunting or i am working for a specific reason... if the project takes 1 hour or 48 hours its the same to me to be honest sorry i couldnt be more helpfull ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by nasher at Aug 12, 2009 6:09:01 PM] |

Wilgard,
----------------------------------------The techs try to adjust the size of the work units for a duration of 7 hours in the mythical "average computer", except for - HCC WUs which are not adjustable and usually are slightly shorter than this target - CEP which tends to be slightly above this target - NRW (Rice) which is designed to end at the end of the current computation once the 7-hour limit has been reached - HCMD2 WUs which will stop after 4 hours if less than 60 % of the total job has not been reached, and for those WUs which have passed the 60 % level they will stop anyway after 8 hours if the 4 additional hours have not been enough to complete the job. Note that many HCMD2 WUs will last much less than 4 hours on faster machines. Therefore once you have run a few FAAH, HPF2, IADS and/or HFCC WUs in one of your computers you know how fast (or slow) it is vs the so called "average computer" and you can adjust the expected durations of all projects except NRW and HCMD2 to your precise case. For all adjustable projects and for NRW the techs may decide to change the target for operational reasons, i.e. lengthen them to decrease the load on the servers, or shorten them, e.g. if they want to make a stress test on the servers. In this case they announce the change in the Member News forum. Last but not least you may check how things are really going by looking at one of Sekerob's famous graphs, the WCG Project Tasks Average Run-Time. I hope this helps. Jean. |
