This probably has been asked before. (Searching returned 2000+ pages of results.)
----------------------------------------I see that WCG calculates my total CPU run time, but how does it do it? Is it simply all my run time added together or is it converted somehow? Different users can have the same total CPU run time but will have actually completed different amounts of work. ![]() |

Run time is just that - the amount of time that your computer is actually working on a project. The difference between different computers' speed however is factored in by the points awarded. Probably more than you ever wanted to know about points is explained here. Hope that helps.
(& if I'm way off base I'm sure that I'll be quickly corrected by the much more knowledgeable people who hang out here & will probably be along shortly.... ![]() ![]() |

The community advisor's will surly give you a better answer. but I will give it a try.
----------------------------------------It dipends on your CPU and size of the work units. Rice for example has a fixed run time for 7 hours, and HMCD2 are terminating the WU's after 4 hours if the progress i less then 60%. The Clean Energy projekt had some monster WU's in the start tht could take over 20 hours. So if one person is running rice, he or she will finish up 3 WU's of 7 hours in 21 hours, and if another is running clean energy he or she will only finish up 1 WU in 21 hours . I hope this was a little bit clarifying.... ![]() |

"Is it simply all my run time added together?"
----------------------------------------Yes, it is as simple as that, all the run time spent by your computer(s) for computing all the results which also appear on your Stats page. "or is it converted somehow?" Not at all. It is meant to express your volunteer contribution regardless of the power of the machine(s) you are offering. "Different users can have the same total CPU run time but will have actually completed different amounts of work." True. This difference is reflected in the total of points which is closer to the real work done. Greg and Ken had said it pretty well, but since they wanted a CA to confirm their saying, there it is... ![]() Jean. |

first i would like to say thank you for your support and welcome to the project SiKTheGreatOne.
----------------------------------------alot of people will do there best to help you and i agree there are tons of past posts that are very hard to sort through. but has been answered before CPU Run Time is just that how long your CPU has been running projects for WCG. dont be afrade to ask if you can not find what your looking for in the FAQ's or need clarification to something. ![]() |
