BOINC credit calculation

Hi there,
when checking one of my results I found the following in the work unit status window:
CMD2_ 0024-2UYY_ C.clustersOccur-2Z5H_ B.clustersOccur_ 3_ 125238_ 129934_ 1-- 614 Valid 30.07.09 09:10:06 30.07.09 17:13:05 4.01 25.8 / 16.0
CMD2_ 0024-2UYY_ C.clustersOccur-2Z5H_ B.clustersOccur_ 3_ 125238_ 129934_ 0-- 614 Valid 30.07.09 09:05:13 04.08.09 18:57:41 7.66 118.0 / 307.6

This looks quiet strange since usually all user get the same credit.
(I'm the one with 16.0 credits, but I'm not asking for ~300 additional).

Could anybody explain this? confused

Kind regards
Galeforce

Re: BOINC credit calculation

The HCMD2 project works based on how much can be crunched in a given amount of time. Basically if after 4 hours you are not 60% finished with the entire WU it will stop no matter how you did manage to complete. If you pair up two machines that can crunch much different amounts in the 4 hours you will get credited much differently.

Re: BOINC credit calculation

Hi Steve,
I know that Nutritious Rice works with a fixed runtime and the amount of credit depends on how much the machine has crunched in the given time.

For all other project (I thought) the granted credit is the average (or a weighted value) across all valid results. That's what I've although seen with my other CMD2 results.

On the other hand, >300 credit for 7 hour of runtime when claiming 118 credit at the same time seems a little curious to me.

Kind regards

Re: BOINC credit calculation

GaleForce,
Steve has explained the main principle of HCMD2 WUs correctly, and it explains the big difference between your claimed credits. This WU apparently had a number of very tough positions to compute**, and if your machine is really slow it is not abnormal that it did only 22 % of the job.
Regarding the calculation of granted credits it is less simple and I think that only knreed could give you some clues. Me too I am surprised by the numbers that you show, but I really don't know anything on how the work done is evaluated at validation time.

Cheers. Jean.

** Although he apparently has a fast machine your wingman was close to reach the second limit of 8 hours after which the job is stopped in any case for these WUs.
