I am often disconnected for up to a week at a time. Local client running BOINC on dual processor laptop Windows XP/Professional... 6.2.28. Using Advanced -> Preferences -> network usage set additional work buffer to 8 days. Processor usage set to 100%... while computr is in use and shile computer is on batteries. Scheduler downloads less than one day's worth of tasks. See following messages:

I am often disconnected for up to a week at a time. BOINC looks at past history and assumes that your computer won't be on any more than that and won't be able to finish new work in time. You may not be able to fill up a very large queue, but will get more work if you complete some.Filling up an 8 day queue ahead of time and THEN going away for a week will surely drive it nuts. I like to drain my queue if I know that I will be away for awhile.

Hello Bjorn
----------------------------------------It appears that even though your computer is on most of the time, BOINC is only running for a fraction of that time. As the work units have 10 day deadlines, BOINC predicts that if you download too many tasks then they will not finish in time. There could be a number of reasons that BOINC is not running all the time your computer is on. You already say that it's set too 100% and while computer is on batteries. In your "My Grid" section on the website, select Device Manager, then device profiles on the left. Then select the profile you are using (possibly "default") Make sure "do work while computer is in use" is set to Yes, "stop work after computer is idle for" is set to zero. |

Computer on 99.4% of time, BOINC on 7.2% of that .... agree with Gordoma ... only getting a small fraction of use

Checked web profiles... "Do work while computer is in use" was/is set to YES. "Stop work after computer is idle for" was/is set to zero.
Rechecked local profile.... "Do work while computer is in use" was/is set to YES. Also checked how many hours of cpu have been returned each day for the last week.... lots of CPU hours returned to server each day. |

Also remember that on a dual core system, your CPU time counts "double". One hour of runtime on a dual core is one hour for both cores, so two hours in total... Dual core systems are great for hunting badges (I've got some 20 of them set up :D )
----------------------------------------So basically, on a dual core system, in 10 days, you should be able to do 20 days of work. But like the others said, since your machine has a "bad track record", BOINC doubts that you'll be able to finish the assigned work in time so it will refus to download... You could try uninstalling and reinstalling BOINC so it will see it as a new machine to get rid of the bad track record.

FYI... in case others report similar problem... Finally figured out how to solve the problem. Note that uninstalling BOINC and then reinstalling BOINC does NOT solve the problem.
The faulty history data causing the problem was contained in the BOINC folder in Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data.... which does NOT get uninstalled when using Control Panel to uninstall BOINC. Solution: Uninstall BOINC. Then navigate to: Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BOINC and delete the BOINC folder. Then reinstall BOINC. Problem solved. |

I get that on my PC's sometimes but in my case it's has to do with how much time a project gets:
----------------------------------------"No work sent Computer is on 99.x% of time, BOINC gets 98.X% of that, Project X only gets 40.X% of that". I just check to make sure the projects all get about the same time. (Or try to). ![]() |
