edit: Ah yes knreed just posted, the verification code that at least 1 team stat compiler is using for sub-project team stats. For now, the only information that deliver the verification code is the team history. With normal feed, without code verification, you can have badges (before an update it wasn't possible). |

I'm still trying to find someone who could write the code to be included in the boinc server main code. Given the willingness of both the WCG techs here and the BOINC owners hopefully it will come to fruition :)
I've actually revamped my internal code for handling subproject data given that Primegrid have just started doing badges as well. Even created some simple signatures for them..for example |

quick bumpage to keep this idea alive :)
----------------------------------------And a few notes about the possibilities if it ever does happen. I've coded for milestones for Primegrid and Yoyo@Home when new badge levels are reached. See here for an example where a silver badge was reached today. This is then going to tie in to my facebook app which currently posts credit milestones to the users wall. Code is written to post the badge level milestones, just testing it.. Hope this might encourage someone to look into the export of subproject data :) Bok [Edit 1 times, last edit by Bok7575 at Sep 12, 2009 1:47:05 PM] |

Odd that sub-project stats are not supported by WCG given that the whole point of stats and rankings are to promote participation. Sure we can track our own progress on WCG but the ability to compete and compare, including across projects, would be stellar. If it's a privacy issue, why not let the user decide with a profile setting? ExportSubProjectStats=(Y/N) If it was available, I'd definitely opt in.

Believe the ball is presently in another court since around August 5.
----------------------------------------As you can read in knreed Aug 5 post, the BOINC database does not facilitate this detail storage and export as other things we consider normal at WCG such as result by project and contributor, CPU time, Points (aka Credits / 7) Notwithstanding, science-project level competition is already possible at team level. Challenges permit them to be set up with that option. Anyway, the request is in, the ToDo list long, new client to test and test and always conscious of ways to make things more attractive.

yeah I know, waiting patiently to see if anyone picks this up to go into the BOINC server source. Of course WCG could pioneer it.
I may be wrong but I don't think it would be that difficult. Likely just an extra table or two, some code in the validator to update the table and then the code added to export the data. Out of interest, how is the data currently held here? Obviously there is a table or two in the database, what updates them ? Is it done at validation time or as part of the main (outside of BOINC) stats update? |

We will be adding a table and the associated export at some point in the future. It will provide the ability to track by application and host for the fields expavg_credit, total_credit, failure rates, etc. This will then be able to be exported in the users stats as well as do things such as automatically reduce sending workunits for a project to a host that always errors on that project. This will be really useful.
However, we will not be able to get to this until late 1Q 2010 at the earliest. I hate saying things like that but I don't want to mislead either. |

Thanks!!! That is fantastic news regardless of timeframe (and 2010 isn't really that far away anyway )
----------------------------------------I REALLY appreciate this and I'm sure many others will do too. Bok [Edit 1 times, last edit by Bok7575 at Sep 15, 2009 2:23:05 AM] |

wow thanks for the update i can definatly wait till 1Q 2010 and sounds intresting feature... i especialy like the comment about being used to filter work units out if a host always errors out on that project (hopeing by host you mean computer not user though)

This is particularly directed at machines that fail on for instance HPF2 that crash on certain client/OS combo's for no isolateable reason and within seconds. These devices would not get them, but maybe once per period to see if the problem resolved itself.
----------------------------------------This partially covers the project selection part where members wanted to exclude 'I don't want that project because it always fails" if they select the "if there is no work for...".
