This past week the cancer project became a bit more personal to me.

One of my good friends on the XS team was told he had a particulary aggressive form of cancer this past week.
I won't go into the specifics as thats his business and not for me to speak about on an open forum but I'd like to speak a bit about the guy himself.
I met him back in late 2005 when I joined the Xs forum.
After working in retail, and wholesale sales for over 40 years you get a feeling about what type of people your dealing with by the way they write.
What I saw in him was a good natured guy who just wanted to help others and to the best of his ability to do so.
We became friends and over time got to be very good friends.
I finally met him this past January at CES in Las Vegas and found that what I'd felt was true.
Just a guy, but a nice one.
At his home I saw the level of comitment he'd put into this project.
Over 20 high end machines running on WCG.
We spent a lot of time together that week and I got to know the man behind the name. Just plain committed to doing what he could to help eradicate this disease.
Then last week he tells me about what the Dr's told him and it broke my heart to hear this was happenning to him of all people.
I'm 57 and he's a little bit younger than I am and even at this age with many years behind you of seeing the good and bad in life I couldn't find the words to say to him how I felt.
You go through the different emotions from shock to anger to questioning why this is happenning to such a good person and you finally get to the point where it doubles your resolve to fight this disease with all you have in you and hope and pray that it will save people like this.
My apologies if this is in the wrong section but this has been tearing at me since last Wednesday.
Thanks for reading.
Dave

Dave

That was really heartfelt and I'm sure your teammate appreciates you posting that. One of the great things about this forum is that everyone is here to do good and it makes it easy to open up when things are troubling you.

I hope your teammate gets all the treatment he needs and successfully overcomes his illness. As serious as his condition sounds, the human body is an amazing machine and although there is no "cure" as yet, medicine is constantly advancing and treatments are becoming evermore effective.

My thoughts are with him and his family, as well as you and others on the XS team.

Re: This past week the cancer project became a bit more personal to me.

Dave,

Everything that has been said is true.

Your comments are very heartfelt and thoughtful and I'm sure your friend will appreciate them.

I've been through cancer, fortunately for me it was very mild, and
whilst all the processing people do is vital and appreciated, it shouldn't be forgotten that just by being there, as a friend, you will do so much for him.

That person to talk to or shoulder to cry on means so much, believe me. That said don't be afraid to have your own time to do deal with this, it's not just the person who's ill that's affected.

The best of luck

Andrew

Thank you all for your thoughts.
The family we have we are born into but friends are those special people that we meet and see that something special in.
This guy is one of those people.
Far from a perfect human being but then again who is.
What he has in abundance is an open heart and that desire to help.
Over on the Xs forum I call these people the "Good Hearts" guys and gals.
In a society that is all me,me,me these folks like yourselves are not the "me's" but the "you's" of this world and that makes them all special in my mind.

Re: This past week the cancer project became a bit more personal to me.

So sad Movieman. Hope that all flow in the right way for his fiend.

Cancer reached my family years ago. There aren't bad experience like that. It put us in a continuous testing about many human things and priorities, and about our own fragile human condition in this world.

Sciences many times could help, pray many times bring us some hope regarding faith, but the friends always make the difference in this day by day war against it.
