I now have 3 machines running for the WCG effort. The last machine added has been chugging away for at least 6yrs (office use) & is a 733Mhz AT/AT Compatible with 500kRam and Win2kPro OpSys. The other 2 machines are 1.8Ghz and 2.8Ghz dual core machines with large Gb rams and hard drives.
The small machine was first loaded with a Clean Energy wu, and it took ~152 clock hr's / 128 cpu hr's vs the ~ 10-11hrs/wu on the Gb machines. Since 156hrs seem a 'bit' long, I switched to NRW after the Solar completion. The small machine now cranks out a respectable 3-4wu/da taking ~7.5-8.0clock / 7.00-7.03cpu. which seems very reasonable to me (the Gb machines produce 6wu's each/day) I never expected to receive the same credit for the lengthy Solar unit, however, I'd like to know WHY I'm only getting 8.9-9.1 / 6.5-8.3 (Claimed/Granted) credit vs ~50-75 / 61-71 credit on the faster machines??? The average Granted Credit/hr on 1.8Ghz=8.8 & 2.7Ghz=9.7 while the 733Mhz is barely 1.0!! The ratio of speed is ((1.8Ghz+2.7Ghz)/2)/7.3Mhz = ~3 multiple. The ratio of credit is ((325+32/2)/36 = ~8.8 multiple. Was some HUGE handicap set in place with the extraordinary time spent on that 1st Solar unit that will effect future credit on this machine, or does something have to be reset somewhere to bring these ratio's more in line?? (Please forgive ignorance.... I have only been in WCG since Dec.08, and I've read all the forums I could to ascertain an answer to my curiosity. Asking is sometimes the shortest way to an answer.) I appreciate your time on my behalf, and await your reply. |

NRW is an excellent starting point for comparison as it runs a fixed 7 hours. The more work is done in that 7 hours, the more points are awarded. Sound like your 2.7 ghz machine is doing indeed ~8.8 times more than your 0.7 ghz.

ThankU4urSpeedyReply, Sekerob.
I believe I've caught the WCG 'fever'!! Am now eyeballing roomates dual processor 1.8Ghz PC to "add to the fold". (that'll be 4 crunchers) I am very glad/proud to be a part of this effort which started as a dedication to a dear friend who succumb to cancer last year, and another who battles Multiple Sclorsis. I am likewise appreciative of ALL the WCG Tech ppl who answer our endlessly (redundant) questions with a helpful attitude. Perhaps another 10yrs at this, and I'll apply for a tech position...by then I will have asked all the questions you've answered ! lol Be well, enjoy and thanks again. I'll 'ding U' when the 10th machine goes on line..(and the utility co. OWNs my life!) Say... do you have a handle on where I can get a cheeeeep solar array & some BIG batteries? RJ (a/k/a Ol43) |

yes the fever is nice when ya can get someone else to add to you
----------------------------------------i like the rice project but it sometimes confusese me on how it works with the some computers doing more work than others in there 8 hour run time and all the work being usefull... honestly till i get my first sapphire badge i am going to be working just 1 projects but if this one is still going strong when im done on sapphire i might push my 294 days to one year... but right now my wife has agreed that we are going for 1 sapphire with our machines then decideing what to do next (corse if any new projects come out i am going to divert power to at least get a bronze on all those projects) this has been my standby project alot of times but right now its one for the sapphire then worry about other projects... especialy now that i have only 4 computers left crunching and one of those might be slowly dieing right now... planing on takeing it down on the weekend and checking to see if there is anything i can do to make it work better |
