Hello all, I'm new to World Community Grid :D
I've questions to ask, some may all be too n00b, but I hope no one is tired in answering them. I've read through many threads, but most of it are read only, making it not possible for me to ask further questions in the thread. [1] Once I've downloaded and installed the software, I can just leave the pc running, and no additional work needed for the process to run? [2] How do I set so that the screensaver do not appear ? I find it annoying because the screensaver appear very soon after i leave the pc idle. [3] I have many computers idling at home and I wish to use them for this purposes. Can I set them using the same username ? Meaning, all accounts in the computers are set to only one username ? [4] Could you guys please link me to the thread about point accumulation? [5] Lastly, where can I get 'signature' ? Meaning an icon where I can put it in my signature bar in forums, so that it can make others aware of this project and to encourage them to join? |

Hello and welcome nujikabane!
----------------------------------------And congratulations, because if you have read several read-only threads that means that you have tried to find information yourself in the "Start Here" section. 1. Once you have checked with the first jobs that the client is running fine you may forget it completely if you want. Obviously it is good to have a look at it from time to time to make sure it is still OK, but normally the client is able to organize its job by itself. 2. You can disable the screensaver completely if you had none before, or select another one of your choice (including a blank one) and/or adjust its delay as you like. For this purpose right click on an empty part of the Windows desktop, then select "Properties". In the Properties box select the Screensaver tab and adjust the settings as you prefer. 3. Yes, you can use the same username for all your computers, and in fact it is our recommended way of doing. 4. For this question I am not sure of what you are looking for. The page where you can check your own stats is this one My Grid - My Statistics If you are looking for something else, please be more specific. 5. We don't have that for the time being, but there might be something new in this area in one of the future website updates. Thank you for joining WCG and Happy Crunching. Jean. |

Hello, and thanks for the reply :)
[1] I have made some minor tweaking, based on my preferences, especially abt how many memory space to allow the process to use and so forth. [2] Done, thanks :) [3] I think I tried that before, but failed. Only one computer is working fine, but the other one, the process didn't start at all, it was stucked at 0.00% [4] I will read the thread thoroughyl and will ask questions, if any, there. [5] I hope it can be done soon, as I believe it is one of the best 'advertising' method to encourage more people to join :) And I am hoping there is an icon where others can see our points, ranks and badges. Certainly an ego boost, lol |

[1] If you want to have the maximum output possible with your hardware, set the cpu usage in your preferences to 100% and check if it doesn't annoy you.
[3] please try restarting the computer and paste the "messages" log from the program here. [4] enter your username you registered for the software on boincstats.com to get nice statistics and gaphs, it's very addicting (note that this website divides the points you get by 7!) On the "My Grid" you'll notice that you can gain "badges", bronze, silver and gold for your contribution! [5] On the "My Grid" page there's a button called "widget" it let#s you create a custom signature to advertise the project! |

[3] please try restarting the computer and paste the "messages" log from the program here. Yes , nujikabane please do that for the PC which is blocked at 0.00 %. It has probably another problem than the the username, unless you have not entered it correctly. [5] On the "My Grid" page there's a button called "widget" it let#s you create a custom signature to advertise the project! I don't think that the current WCG widget is suitable for email signatures, but Tom if you have been successful please say a few words about how you have done it. Cheers. Jean. |

(corse I am useing BOINC to run this project i am not sure the way to do it if you are useing IBM's one Everybody is using BOINC now, the UD client was discontinued over a year ago. I second the recommendation for BOINCstats. It's also a good one to use if you want to venture into other BOINC projects. It would be cool to have a signature breakdown by WCG sub-project, though I don't think the stats are set up for that. ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by noderaser at Jul 14, 2009 2:08:25 AM] |
