Re: New "Toys" for the project

Nice toys! Thanks for sharing, and thanks for using them for such a worthwhile cause.

And just think, in time these workhorses will be fairly common, allowing many of us to throw them onto the grid. (Perhaps even my broke self.) And by then, who knows what wonderous toys you'll be able to get your hands on!

Crunch on.

I hope so but right now to build this retail would be app $4500.00 for just the MB,cpu's,HS and memory..
BUT.. Look at a dual gainestown with a pair of E5520's..
It will run at 2400 on turbo and do maybe 40K a day and it will last as your on a server quality board not a cheap gamer..

Re: New "Toys" for the project

I just noticed the thread on the Westmere 32nm 6 core over at XS. Nice to see.

I expect based on your hardware you are the same Movieman.

XS helped me out a lot when setting up my Q9550.
Been stable running 24hours a day at 4.1+ for 6 months.
It's a good resource.

Re: New "Toys" for the project

I wish I had my hands on equipment like that!

I'm a sysad and have only had the IT manager's consent to install WCG on some users' desktops and laptops and run it at 60% while the user is idle... Still, with over 20 installations already done that gives me some 30k ppd.

Of course my "own" ThinkPad T61p and T60 are crunching at 100% all the time ;)

Yes, thats me..
I'm hoping to get my hands on a pair of Gulftown 6 core cpu's soon but like so many things when it happens it happens.
You just never know until they arrive.
I agree, Xs is an incredible resource.
I found it back in November 2005.
Thought I knew a lot until I started reading and reading and reading.
Some incredibly talented people there that it's been my pleasure to get to know.
Update on the W5590 Gainestowns.
That machine is now the #2 machine in WCG based on the last month's output.
