Is there a good valid necessary reason that WU names listed in the WCG Results Status pages have spaces inserted in them, replacing instances of "_" (underscore only) with "_ " (underscore+space)?
In the absence of a facility in the WCG website to search for a particular WU's Result Status, we have to do it either visually or by using the search facility in our browsers. To use our browsers, we would copy the wanted WU name from a message log and paste it into the browser's search box. Then having to edit the spaces into the name is a PITA. Is the "--" (double dash) at the end of the names needed too? Example: * Copied from BOINC Advanced View >> Messages: CMD2_0017-MYH3.clustersOccur-SOS1A.clustersOccur_304_360571_360845_0 * Copied from WCG Results Status: CMD2_ 0017-MYH3.clustersOccur-SOS1A.clustersOccur_ 304_ 360571_ 360845_ 0-- |

Saturday morning, the underline / space are probably used as delimiters to identify elements in a task name and -- identifying the end, but then stripped when transmitting to client? Maybe not strip?
----------------------------------------What has always boggled my mind at pure BOINC projects where it's incomparable worse. You have a task name showing in the client, but when going to the result status page you get lists of numbers with e.g. 82644898, the number you see above in the address bar as workunitId=82644898. Try matching that ;>)

To illustrate, went out to another project and pulled a WU:
----------------------------------------How it's listed, tasks for user, without discernible filters: Task ID Work Unit ID 6336143 6044111 Name in client: 1oz1_mod0014p38alpha_28062_209467_0 Hope we never ever get the BOINC standard web layout we hear at times being requested.

To illustrate, went out to another project and pulled a WU: How it's listed, tasks for user, without discernible filters: Task ID Work Unit ID 6336143 6044111 Name in client: 1oz1_mod0014p38alpha_28062_209467_0 Hope we never ever get the BOINC standard web layout we hear at times being requested. On the other BOINC-project, you've forgotten to click on the "Show Names"-link, example: 02se08ab.7457.16432.8.8.24_0 472584166 6 Jul 2009 1:39:40 UTC 11 Jul 2009 5:56:40 UTC Completed and validated 1,931.17 14.89 14.89 To see as ID, just click on the "Show IDs"-link, and it switches back to: 1291797268 472584166 6 Jul 2009 1:39:40 UTC 11 Jul 2009 5:56:40 UTC Completed and validated 1,931.17 14.89 14.89 In case you've landed on a project that doesn't include the "Show Names"-link, and the filters for pending, in progress, errors and so on, it's not BOINC's fault some projects, like WCG, runs old server-code. In any case, if you're looking for a particular task, it's normally easier to look for either deadline or report-time (or possibly sent-time), than to look for the task-name. For most projects you'll normally only have a couple tasks with the same deadline or report-time, while you can have many tasks with similar names, just differing in last number or something... Example: dddt1602c0160_100000_0 dddt1602c0160_100007_0 dddt1602c0160_100011_0 dddt1602c0160_100012_0 dddt1602c0160_100030_0 dddt1602c0160_100004_0 dddt1602c0160_100076_0 ... and the list goes on... ![]() "I make so many mistakes. But then just think of all the mistakes I don't make, although I might." |

Duh, but that show link was already mentioned elsewhere as a feature at 2 projects, not this one. I've already requested at Berkeley that the 6.6 client in the task properties also gets the WU ID link.
----------------------------------------Edit: Now would it not be great, that it was actually set up as hot link in the properties screen, so hitting it will open up the web result page WU info ![]() Edit2: So nothing forgotten and given WCG shows the WU name up front, not relevant in this instance that WCG runs a previous version of server code, planned to be upgraded, if not already underway.
