HP server problem - resolved

RESOLVED

Someone gave me an HP A3462A server mounted in a C2788A rack with 2 A3312A storage bays. My problem (other than being stupid laughing ) is there's nowhere to plug in a monitor. There are ports for mouse and keyboard but what good is that if I can't see what I'm doing.
I want to install a new operating system so I can use it to crunch.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Y'all have a great day. cool

Re: HP server problem

A solution is a KVM Switch:

Re: HP server problem

It was probably managed prior to you getting it using KVM over Ethernet. Just go buy a cheap video card.

Re: HP server problem

Thanks but KVM's still have to have a video connection. As for installing a video card, this thing does not have normal slots for cards, it uses 75 (or somewhere thereabouts) pin connectors on the MB (similar to a 50 pin SCSI drive except there are 3 rows of pins). I'm familiar with KVM over ethernet, but somehow you have to have video to install the OS and remote control software before that is possible.

I've put in a request for a video card for the beast from a server company, but while I'm waiting, any more suggestions?

Thanks and have a great day.

Re: HP server problem

acpartsman, perhaps you can use PXE? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Preboot_Execution_Environment

This should let you bootstrap your OS installation. I'm sorry, I can't give you any details on how to actually do this.

Re: HP server problem

Thanks for the suggestions and help, but I now have a fried power supply. Not worth repairing, I'll try parting it out.

Y'all have a great day. smile
