Question of the day.. (or maybe the first one..) Do PC's crunch "better" with Windows 7? i've heard from someone here at work (an IT dude..) that Windows 7 is less processor intensive with applications that it loads on startup.. Dr. Mike.. ![]() If you mean faster, I have not seen any noticiable decrease in run times. However it is difficult to benchmark as no two wu's are the same. It does boot a lot faster, is less cluttered and UAC is not a problem anymore. All three machine I have it on just crunch so I have not really checked out any of its features. It is not available until Oct, 22 unless you want to down load the Release Candidate version. You need to have burner software that will burn an .iso file. ![]() |

thanks Dataman.. :) have always wondered.. how many cores are you running? others who post in here? Dr. Mike.. I crunch on a measly 3 cores... In order of speed 2.0 GHz Pentium M 3.2 GHz Pentium 4 w/brain-dead HT 1.6 GHz Pentium M (almost as fast as the 3.2 GHz Pentium 4) No CUDA-capable GPUs. The 3.2 GHz P4 has heat problems except during cool weather ... so it has to run at 80% over half the year (and when it's on), making it about the same effective speed as the 1.6 GHz PentM. Now you know why I rule the bottom of the charts - D |

The important thing is you are one of the elite few in the world that bother to do it at all. @Mike: Look back a few posts to answer your question of what I have. Heating up gradually here ... still ... it has been a mild summer so far. 88F today. ![]() ![]() |
