Problem: Output file exceeds disk limit even if limit is set to the maximum

Hello to everyone,
I encountered the problem, that an output file exceeds the disk limit, even if the limit is
set to the maximum.
My settings in the BOINC Mangager are as follows:
Use maximum of 99,00 GB disk space
Leave at least 0.10GB disk space empty
Use max of 98,00 per cent of disk space
Write to disk max every 60 seconds
Use a max of 99 per cent of the swap

My web based settings (device profile) are as follows:
Disk Usage
Use no more than: 99.0 Gigabytes of disk space
Leave at least: 0.1 Gigabytes of disk space free
Use no more than: 98.0 % of total disk space
Write to disk at most every: 60.0 seconds

I assume, that this is the maximum I can do. Disk space should allways be enough.

The disk space actually free at the moment on my system is 1,03 GB, I think a lot.

Nevertheless I got the following replies which can be found on the end of the thrread.
Please give this problem to the researchers and let them give an answer whether my system has a problem or whther their application has a problem.
Thank you and the researchers for their answer.

Re: Problem: Output file exceeds disk limit even if limit is set to the maximum

Hi,

there are 2 limits:

1. The work file which is limited by the techs to not use more than 300 mb, which has nothing to do with your BOINC limits. This is what your error indicates, error -161

2. An output file limit which is 15000000 byte and is also unrelated to your BOINC settings. Also not of relevance in your case, error -131

For the moment don't think I can do anything for you, but to ask you to go to the Result Status page, click on the error link and post a copy. What OS is this and what are the RAM permissions? All information, including the real permitted Disk Use in the BOINC startup log.

Edit: added request and error codes point 1/2 above.

Re: Problem: Output file exceeds disk limit even if limit is set to the maximum

All looks healthy. Just a bigger job than usual and hopefully not related to the other current thread . The Techs may have to increase both parms 1/2 above. So far I've successfully run CEP jobs through batch 764 and have started a 767 to find out about the second point.

I had to wait for the results to show up on the web page, then I found the link. My first error as far as I know.

<core_client_version>6.2.28</core_client_version>

Re: Problem: Output file exceeds disk limit even if limit is set to the maximum

I got this on a CEP unit and not just one unit either:

<core_client_version>6.4.5</core_client_version>
<![CDATA[
<stderr_txt>
Calling initGraphics()
INFO: No state to restore. Start from the beginning.
called boinc_finish

</stderr_txt>
<message>
<file_xfer_error>
<file_name>E000770_260C_005v0400b_1_0</file_name>
<error_code>-131</error_code>
</file_xfer_error>

</message>
]]>
I am running Windows XP Pro 32 bit. All other work finishes just fine, seems to be CEP units are having some issues. I did a search on the net for this kind of error and they are all over the place and all seem to be Project problems, not user installation problems. I am not accusing, just trying to help figure out the cause and fix.

I mean here is an example from 2006, a different project but a similar error http://dist.ist.tugraz.at/cape5/forum_thread.php?id=144
