cool Seeking Ideas for really novel WCG Challenges

At any given time, there are many team challenges to compete in on WCG.

Sadly, they are basically the same.

Here's a suggestion for a different WCG challenge:

This is patterned after a HAM [amateur radio] Field Day Standby: the Fox Hunt [hidden transmitter hunts], redfish tag contest and a scavenger hunt.

A WU be tagged as the Fox that the competing teams were after.

. . . possibly only 1 in 1K WU's or a reasonable, but challenging number.

After a team got a tagged WU in one project, they would center their resources on another project. . .

This could go on for quite a while before a team got a tagged WU in each of the 9 WCG projects.

[presented as a brainstorming exercise, seeking more input, or completely different concepts]

Instead of the standard crunchathons on points, run time or results returned, this would be a team contest to get the specially defined WU's in each project.. . . it could be about getting them all, or how many could be gotten, in say, a three day weekend contest.

I believe a WCG cruncher that was radically different could get more participation from teams from the wider world of BOINC.
