Is it possible to have a list of up and coming projects on the web site?
----------------------------------------So we can see possible new projects before they actually start. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jun 19, 2009 1:59:24 PM] |

Basically (I believe - there may be other considerations to take into account), is so that, when a new project does launch, it gets the biggest impact it possibly can (i.e., publicity/press launches etc.).
----------------------------------------Once you've been around the forum's for some time, you can start to get a bit of a feel if/when a new project is coming up (i.e, one phase of a project is nearing completion with the scientists preping another etc.), or when a new wave of "undisclosed" beta testing is occurring, although there are times when even the CA's don't get much advanced warning (if any) of a new project coming online... A case in point for an unexpected project, was IADS, whilst a long anticipated project was HCMD2... ![]() |

The main to me aside from PR angle is, that WCG Hosts projects, is not the owner and only when they say yes will the project be launched. HCMD2 was delayed considerable and one thing not needed is disappointments, though in this case it seemed that they worked at doing exactly that with slipping information on launch date windows. Yet more astounding though was that their own organisation [by appearance] was slow to play the fanfare when the project was actually there. Strictly my personal perceptions of what went down... possibly they waited till the next MaxDo science engine was able to produce stable results, so that new arrivals we're not in for an additional set back. This is why there is already the so-called technical release day and PR day split. Call it pre-escrow or whatever.
----------------------------------------Anyway, DDDT2, CEP2 and much further out ACAH2 are no secret as is 1 project going on GPU (possibly HCC), if that experience is considered none intrusive by the WCG Team. But, much too much has been said already on that topic.

hmm, it'd be good if hcc went on the gpu, there's lots to crunch since it's a popular project (based on computing power given to it based on charts) and yet it's still only about 25% done.

Hello Greg Lyke,
I assume you are pulling my leg. I looked at the acronym page and saw: GPU: Graphics Processing Unit DC Sciences using the display card (Computing) GPUs are manufactured by Nvidia and ATI and are sold in their graphics boards. Lawrence |

Nope, I wasn't pulling your leg.
I could have sworn that it wasn't there this morning when I checked (obviously it was). Oh well, blame it on a lack of coffee & early in the morning (or at least too soon after getting up )(perhaps it got some people who wouldn't normally have to click on the page & learn something that they didn't already know - I'll consider that today's contribution to increasing the general knowledge base of humanity as I try to slink off into the shadows... )Ah well, tomorrow is another day & yet another chance to stick my foot into my mouth.... ![]() |

I didn't check the date when I checked the acronym page. Sekerob updated the acronym page minutes after Greg first posted, before I checked it. My apologies, Greg.Lawrence |
