<snip snip> I’d just bet you were not in the military, RT. Keith! When I was a kid I had an uncle whose fishing buddy was from southern Georgia. He could fillet a person like a fish without ever using one word that, in another context, could not be used in church. It is quite an art form.On the other side, I am reminded of a moment of my life. It was 1969 and my sorry rear was west of Da Nang. It was around midnight and a bunch of us were leaned against an APC listening to the squawk on its radio. Some 2nd louie was under fire, running low and needed ammo. I don’t think he had casualties as he was not requesting a Medivac but he desperately needed ammo. He had made several “requests” and was very proficient in the use of “MF” in its non-abbreviated form as well as other colorful expressions. Finally he just lost it. Of course, after 40 years, I cannot remember the exact conversation but it went something like this. I will use @ for the colorful words. “Charlie Six to Firebase One, over. Fire Base One where’s my @@ ammo you @, @? <pause>. @,@ git a @ slick in the @ air with some @ ammo NOW you @. You @ lazy @, @@. @@ I ain’t @ kidding, @@, we’re all gonna be @ dead, you @@, if you don’t @ get off your @@@ NOW. NOW you @@ or I @@ swear I’m going to @ cut off your @@, @’s and feed them to the @ jungle rats!! Sargent, you @@, if I @ ever get my @ @$$ off this @@ hill I @ swear I’m @ gonna rip your @ head off your @ neck and @ down the @, @ hole, you @@.Do you hear me? you @@!! GIT IT HERE NOW! @@" The APC moved out and I never knew if the LT actually got his ammo. I'm not sure it could have been "more adequately expressed" by him saying, “Please bring me some ammo, thank you.” I’m not sure it would have been quite as effective in that situation. His use of language was quite an art form too as he was able to use @@ as every part of speech in the English language. I think it would take a PhD in English to diagram his sentences though. I do hope they made it out alive.PS: I’ll bet Dave can read this without pausing. ![]() While on the other side of the earth from Texas, I have looked into the business end of an AK47 being maliciously pointed at me by a foreign soldier more than once. I sometimes still have vivid nightmares about those instances. Of course, we all hope the people you talked about made it out alive. I had friends that didn’t. Further, If there is a swear word that has ever been uttered in English that I have not heard, then I would be mildly surprised. I just find them unnecessary; just as I do editing the occasional d@mn out of this forum. It all seems so superfluous/unnecessary to the objectives. This is just my take on the matter and is not intended to have any bearing on anyone else’s actions or to incite any further discussion on this “off-topic” thread. ![]() Well Dittos to that i also had Good friends that didnt come back--Thanks for your Service to our Country--no matter who is leading us |

Its not working--i have tried different drivers and Boinc--my card is the one with 216 streams I'm not sure what is wrong Gerald. GPUGrid is very stable now. If you can post links to some of your error messages that would be helpful. ![]() |

In the non-Google arena, I have been mildly impressed with WolframAlpha. It's a bit rough, but shows promise. - D |

Since Balmer can't buy Yahoo it appears to be Microsoft's latest assult on Google. ![]() I have used it but I suppose that my grey matter calcification prevents me from seeing anything there that would lure me from Google. Of course, I would welcome enlightenment if anyone else sees benefits to it. |

I was pleasantly surprised that it properly handled integrate (cos x) ^ (1/2) dx from x=0 to pi/4 when the analytical solution has stumped so many math packages. It was a "simple" homework problem that wasted a few hours of my life when I was a freshman at Berserkly. The mathematical functions are very well done (figures, since Wolfram wrote Mathematica) but the summation of search results often leaves a bit to be desired. - D |
