Yes it is difficult to tell if we are being impatient or not, but there indeed has been a gap since at least 11:30am US Central Time of available work units. Hopefully this will be a short and that knreed's new algorithm identifies and kicks in quickly.

Yes, we are impatient. We are running 9 projects at the same time. If one of those projects cannot feed your machines on a 24/7 basis for a duration of some hours we are complaining.

My opinion: It is absolutely fantastic what the techs and researchers are doing here. Where else in the world you can support essential research in that way (in my opinion e.g. SETI is not essential for life on earth) with only some moments of technical downtime???

I am just a small cruncher and not a community advisor. Please see my comment in the light of my little role.
Yes, the outage of HCMD2 for some hours hampers your efforts to get the Gold badge quickly. But at the end of the day none of us is contributing his computer time only for badges but for the health and well-being of ourselves and for our children. Am I wrong?

A little more patience would really be appropriate to give the techs the chance to bring things up rather than working on postings with explanaitions on why things did not work.

Why I chose to crunch is my concern not yours....and if the only reason is the badges then badges must be good as I and others may not be crunching here but might be searching for aliens instead!

Re: CMD2 Seems to be out of work again!

roundup et al,

Maybe you have taken my comments here incorrectly. I only post here because it is known that the techs reads these forums and locate information in here that sometimes points to problems which they have not previously been aware of (see prior HCMD2 shortage).

I see your point and fully agree with it from the benevolent front. To a degree, I also agree with Scribe in that his reasons for crunching are his reasons and are of no real concern to anyone else.

My reasons have been benevolent over the years, but have turned deeply personal and selfish of late since my own son has been diagnosed with Duchenne's MD. I could care less about badges before, but I care even less now.

I seriously doubt anybody cares for my opinion, but I will voice a small part of it anyway...

The work here is extremely important and impatience rises from a variety of sources. However we cannot/must not lose sight that we are all on the same team here. Throughout these forums I have seen some subtle and not so subtle sniping. This work most certainly is for our children...certainly mine. I greatly appreciate the techs and community advisors. Due to total commitments I have not yet been able to follow through, but I have recently contacted uplinger to determine need for additional techs to work this load or community advisor and not just a cruncher. In the end, we are all just doing our best to help the effort.

Re: CMD2 Seems to be out of work again!

doug_sanchez,

thanks for your helpful comment.
After all, the WU shortage issue seems to be resolved. I received 29 HCMD2 units since yesterday, 23:23 hrs.

Greetings!

Something wrong with your settings, Scribe? I've got over 40 during last 12 hours.

Re: CMD2 Seems to be out of work again!

After increasing cache by 0.2 days:

cool

CMD2_ 0002-RL23AA.clustersOccur-UGPA2A.clustersOccur_ 27_ 1-- 849476 In Progress 5/31/09 09:57:58 6/14/09 09:57:58 0.00 0.0 / 0.0
CMD2_ 0002-RL23AA.clustersOccur-VINCA.clustersOccur_ 56_ 1-- 849476 In Progress 5/31/09 09:57:40 6/14/09 09:57:40 0.00 0.0 / 0.0
CMD2_ 0002-RL23AA.clustersOccur-VINCA.clustersOccur_ 54_ 0-- 849476 In Progress 5/31/09 09:57:40 6/14/09 09:57:40 0.00 0.0 / 0.0
CMD2_ 0002-RL23AA.clustersOccur-VINCA.clustersOccur_ 48_ 1-- 849476 In Progress 5/31/09 09:57:40 6/14/09 09:57:40 0.00 0.0 / 0.0

Get some of the new, specially for 6.13 created work units and they ran near exactly 4 hours, like RICE does 7 hours, just as per design, so soon many jobs will look like this if don't have a very long taking position included:

CMD2_ 0003-ENOAA.clustersOccur-MYH14.clustersOccur_ 41_ 1-- 849476 Valid 5/29/09 22:15:40 5/30/09 17:54:41 4.01 58.0 / 60.9
CMD2_ 0003-ENOAA.clustersOccur-MYH1.clustersOccur_ 217_ 1-- 849476 Pending Validation 5/29/09 22:08:13 5/30/09 17:43:05 4.00 58.0 / 0.0
