Project selection

I have my own preferences for projects - some I prefer, others I see little merit in (others may differ - please allow me my opinion, as I allow you yours.)

I believe that it should be possible to mark each project either "priority" (send WUs by preference) "opt-in" (send WUs if no "priority" work is available) or "opt-out" (don't send WUs for this project.)

I believe that using this system (and having beta-testing honour the selections) would be more satisfactory than the current opt-in to ALL projects if the primary selections have no work.

Just my 2c - if it's possible.

Re: Project selection

Yes, this variation has been proposed, where I would think a specific "opt-out" for certain projects more elegant. With the "send me other work if none of my favs are available" already in place, it would I think it than covers all basis. The opt-out is also resolving an issue of technical nature... some devices are never successful at certain projects [RICE and HPF2 e.g.], but the techs are hoping to cover that automation in a future release of the server side admin anyhow.

So much, including some fringe info.

Re: Project selection

i would also like more selection of what i run and priority of it

personaly would love it if i personaly could select 1 2 3 4 and so on...

corse i would right now have beta in 1 HCMD in 2 FLU in 3 and from there i would have to look at everything to decide

this would also be some feedback to the people running things to know if people care what they get or that alot of people are intrested in this project (as oposed to just badge hunters) now i am a badge hunter but soon as i get my badges i will shift back to what projects I want to run...

i know WCG will be able to adjust things so that enough work gets done by all projects but i think they might get more work done if they gave people an order.. cause right now im more intrested in geting a beta badge then upgrading silver to gold then bronze to silver to gold... but willin to run most the projects if my selections are not avaliblr

Unbeknown to you, you already have Beta in 'pole' position wink

If there's any Beta WU's available, then they're 'dished out' before any WU's from the already 'productionalised' projects - it's just that there's so few of them about, and so many people in the hunt for them biggrin

Re: Project selection

hmmm and there it's printed in several places that any device/profile that has the beta project test function activated always makes first call at the beta feeder.

No, beta is not a project, so not likely to find it's way onto the My Project page and rare as the beta work is, all enrolled clients should get their random chance wink

Re: Project selection

i am happy that beta is in 1.. that definatly means i can just set myself for short work stockpiles and get beta's when they are avalible..

but i would still like to be able to choose the order of projects for my computer.. call it obsessive compulsive of me or obsessive compulsive disorder or tinker with OCD or ....... biggrin

Re: Project selection

Hello everybody
I support the wish to have the possibility to block projects
Personally I would block the Nutricious Rice Project and all
other green genetics projects
Green genetics is called green because its results are
- in contrast with red genetics -
used in agriculture, not in medicine
The problem with green genetics is that genetically modified
seeds spread all over the world and you cannot take them back
or controll them
This is why I reject green genetics project like
Nutricious Rice for the world
and I would like to stop them from sending work to my
computer
Thanks and bye
Martin

Re: Project selection

Martin, Nutritious Rice for the World uses traditional cross-breeding methods guided by better understanding of protein function, not genetic modification.

If you wanted to know this, all you needed to do was read the project description.

You can opt out of any project at any time, whether your reasons are personal, ethical, right or wrong.

Well, if I want to get jobs from other project, when there is no work to do from the projects I chose, I can not decide, that I want to get jobs only from certain projects. All or nothing.

The option I have in mind is : if there is no work from my project(s) I want jobs only from project A, B, C, but not from project D

As far as the project Nutricious Rice for the World is concerned, you are right.

Re: Project selection

yes i also agree i would like to be able to say yes i want projects a and b

if no work send from c e f and h

do not send me stuff from d or g

again it really dosnt matter when ya look at the whole if alot of people do 1 project and most others leave them selves to all projects they wont get as many of that 1 project cause they are ALL out there and they will ALL get there share of work sure we might get all the HCMD2 done quicker and might lag on say Rice but they will still get done as well as every other project out there

if 80% of the people picked 1 or 2 projects then the 20% left would be doing the other projects.

yes i would like more capibility to prioritize what i want to work

personaly right now the order i want is

1) beta (it alreay gets #1 anyways)
2) HCMD2 (silver) <- badge hunt
3) IADS (bronze) <- badge hunt
4) AIDS (almost to 1 year now)
5) RICE ( next closest to 1 year)
6) Dingue
7) CEP
8) HFCC
9) Cancer (over a year)
10) HPF2 (over a year and not much desire to run)

of corse if any new project comes up it would go in my badge hunt ranking list probaly at a number 2 till at least bronze then shifting down for closest to gold

but right now with the curent situation i am manually doing this by only haveing HCMD2 selected and then now and then opening up IADS for a few jobs but i always have the other projects checked

again i would like more ability but i will tinker as i desire to get the work i want most the time
