I dropped HCMD2 until this is cured. This is time that could be being used to do something other than entertain us by letting us guess if they will finish in a week or not.

I'll sign on again when whoever needs to gets their ducks in a row.

I just set my "additional work buffer" to 0.3 days to avoid getting one of these big units. That wouldn't work if the computer that is crunching isn't hooked up to the internet all the time as it has to pick up a new work unit every 3-4 hours.

There are plenty of other worthwhile projects on WCG, but if you wanted to work on HCMD2 without wasting your time this is a good solution.

Re: Monster WU on the loose...

The 0005 WUs are currently taking around 4 hours 19 minutes to complete on my Intel C2 Quad running 6.6.28 under Vista. Not bad but almost twice as long as the 0002 Wus.

Re: Monster WU on the loose...

I wonder if there was another problem with Linux under 611. I just noticed a got a bunch marked invalid on my Ubuntu machine. In each case, I was on 611 and the Valid ones were on 613. The good news is, none were really long. I am now on 613 and everything is fine.

Re: Monster WU on the loose...

Another way to find the version # of a WU is to look in "Messages". When a WU starts the version # is listed there.

If you suspend/resume the resume message lists it too.

Unless of course you are using the 6.6 stuff in which case you are just lucky to have all kinds of neat info at your finger tips. I am filled with envy.

I am glad i dropped this bugger. It is nice to see WUs again that finish in hours rather than several days. I really hope that this gets straightened out, it is a great project and I have known people who suffer from MD. It is a tough road to travel.

Re: Monster WU on the loose...

The WU that i completed that was V611 that was due 5-31 (I got in under the wire) has been verified.

They extended the bugger and someone got it done by 6-9 so that is good news.

Another one of my behemoths blew up after 65 hours... crying
Maximum CPU time exceeded as usual. Here go the specs:

What is scaring me, is that it will be resent AGAIN, and some other poor soul will have a behemoth to crunch. Good luck, young Padawan!

For now, if you recognize a monster ON Linux, going over 8 hours, abort it. A new beta 6.14 is testing to stop them being send to these clients, the only ones seemingly getting them:

I seem to have one. It's at 25% after 10 hours on a C2D on windows, it is still checkpointing.
