sad wcg_hfcc_autodock is crippling my ThinkPad

Within a few minutes of starting my ThinkPad it becomes unusable due to two instances of wcg_hfcc_autodock soaking up virtually all the CPU. I've tried terminating the processes to no avail. Is there any way of removing all traces of WCG from my ThinkPad?

Re: wcg_hfcc_autodock is crippling my ThinkPad

When you mention Thinkpad there's a much other issue than BOINC that's the real cause and lots been said on these forums about them. They should, properly configured, not have a problem running the sciences using the spare cycles.

Uninstall is all you need to do and afterwards the deletion of the data_directory which location is listed in the BOINC message log.

But, if interested to keep WCG running, we'll be glad to help you further.

wcg_hfcc_autodock is supposed to use all the spare CPU. If you have some other problem, please give further details.

Re: wcg_hfcc_autodock is crippling my ThinkPad

Hi - the symptoms I get are that Lotus Notes 'hangs' the first time I send an email and the system tray disappears. Running Task Manager and viewing the Perfomance display shows a 'heartbeat' pattern with the two autodock processes taking up nearly all the CPU time. It's very frustrating. I thought I had aborted / terminated the hfcc program a while ago but it seems to have kicked in again.

Open BOINC. Click on the Message button or tab, depending on the view.

This is normal.

Sounds like you have a problem with Lotus Notes.

When you say "the system tray disappears", what do you mean?

It looks like I may have a glitch with Lotus Notes 7 which is odd as I've been using it for years. Have checked the company's FAQ site for problems but haven't found anything similar reported. I will submit a helpticket. Looks like WCG has a clean bill of health then!

Since Lotus Notes is from the house of IBM, maybe the techs can help.

Please post startup log of BOINC, about 30 lines, and more hardware details.

Personnaly I have a Thinkpad T61 with Windows XP SP2, Lotus Notes 7, and BOINC Manager 6.2.28. I've been using this Thinkpad since december 2007, and I did not notice any problem.

What is your model of Thinkpad ? Which versions of Windows / Lotus Notes / BOINC Manager do you use ?

Anyway, let us know if your helpticket solves your problem. ;-)

EDIT : I forgot one more question : does your problem happen with HFCC only, or with other projects too ?
