I hate to be a moaner, but when ya gotta say something...
Over on the Known Issues forum knreed said earlier today: We will be performing some routine maintenance on the World Community Grid servers over the next 6 hours. There will be two or three short periods of 10 to 15 minutes when the website or the grid will be offline. We appreciate your patience. Now that may strictly be correct, but what s/he failed to say was that the project would be "temporarily shut down for maintenance" for several hours. So while we may be able to communicate with the servers for most of the time, we can't get any new work while this is going on. PLEASE make this clear in these messages. All I had to do was bump up my cache, but for "10 to 15 minutes" I didn't bother... (And thanks for reading this.) |

I'm pretty sure that Murphy was involved.

We are running into some unexpected issues. The BOINC grid is currently down and we are working on getting it running again. It also states the above. We are unexpectedly having an issue that is causing the outage to be much longer then our previous maintenance work. As soon as we can get the issue resolved we will be back running. |

We are running into some unexpected issues. The BOINC grid is currently down and we are working on getting it running again. I know, what you are talking about...!!! It's kind of strange, that scheduled maintenance tasks very often run into unexpected problems. Politicians and computers are there to solve problems, which wouldn't exist without them... ![]() Edit: I hope you can solve this problem within the next five hours, otherwise the best horse in my barn will run dry... ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at May 26, 2009 6:35:22 PM] |

We have completed the changes. The system should be operating normally now (both the website and the BOINC grid).

Thanks to everyone who responded to my original post. My comments are:
1) The Known Issues forum was being updated whilst I was writing my post, so thank-you for that and I'm sorry if I was unfortunately hasty. 2) I hate Murphy too (but I hate those Gremlins even more) 3) Choice of cache size is too big a topic to start on. Suffice it to say that I've been running CMD units which are short, so kept a short cache so that my 8-way box's list of tasks was all on the screen without scroll bars. I would normally keep a longer cache. Keep crunching! |
