Hi,
My computer just finished crunching a WU (CMD2_0002-MYH6.clustersOccur-SODM.clustersOccur_498) and I was wondering about the SODM - could this protein be a relative of the notorious "SOD1" protein which is associated with familial ALS? thank you, |

Much prefer the project scientist to give the good answer [and it's a long festive weekend in many countries, thus patience required]. The waffle I'd spout is that SODM is ending with an M for Mouse and SOD1 is the human form. oogle is your friend or bing could become one.

Hi, My computer just finished crunching a WU (CMD2_0002-MYH6.clustersOccur-SODM.clustersOccur_498) and I was wondering about the SODM - could this protein be a relative of the notorious "SOD1" protein which is associated with familial ALS? thank you, Hi, SODM is a model structure close to SOD2 (not found in the PDB). It corresponds to a Superoxide dismutase [Mn], mitochondrial, protein. Get more on <http://www.uniprot.org/uniprot/P04179> for instance. This is a close protein to SOD1. We have planned several SOD1 mutants to run in your computers. SOD1 is a Cu,Zn Superoxide Dismutase and has different cofactors than SOD2. I take this occasion to say something of general interest to everyone. The set of proteins we selected, contains all proteins nowadays known to be involved in MD. They might quite easily end up to be crunched in your computer sooner or later in partnership with other human proteins. As a general site that you can refered to, for information on the proteins that you are crunching, you can look at <http://www.rcsb.org/pdb/home/home.do>. you put in the name of the protein and a lot of info comes up. There are about 200 model structures that we run in HCMD2 that you will not find in pdb though and SODM is one of them. Thank you for asking! Best regards, Alessandra |
