Over 3m points for MOT by CompuDude .. wow .. superb return CD . Hope you can get full use of the renderfarm back soon and push for the next million. It's cranking at the moment. Da Vinci Code trailer work finally let up... for now... so I fired up WCG again. We're kinda winging it where the farm is concerned at this point... I can run it when we're not actively rendering, but I have to kill it during big jobs, as I'm not 100% convinced there aren't a few lingering conflicts, and when some individual frames can take 8 hours to render, any conflicts that could cause even one frame to fail are BAD. The admin machines are not as fast as the render nodes, but they're kicking in 10-15k per day without any worries, so it's all good, with or without the farm's nitro-boost. :-) -CD [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at May 6, 2005 4:32:11 PM] |

Hi Julied I have made the modifications that you suggested I have added a box at the top to identfy the current project I have chanced exceeding to achieving So new we have the best of both worlds They BOTH look great, Graham. Thank you for considering my suggestions. Of course, it's whatever the TEAM wants that counts. If my score keeps going backwards, Fisher will come out with a $99.99 computer that beats mine to 100k. ![]() |

There is no doubt in my mind that Rosetta still competes for cpu time when you run processor intensive apps. At this point it has become routine for me to put Rosetta down for a nap when my app starts lugging. Not that I am complaining. It just is what it is. So I deal with it. Now, on to important matters. Congratulations on reaching an awesome milestone, buddy. You may claim that it's the computers that are doing all the work. But its like a lawn. Sure the grass is doing all "the work." But it's sure as hell not the grass that's doing all the maintenance. ![]() Best of luck to you in all of your endeavors, CD. |

But it's sure as hell not the grass that's doing all the maintenance. ![]() Best of luck to you in all of your endeavors, CD. Thanks. :-) In our case, the biggest issue is that our distributed render scripting software launches the rendering processes on each node as low-priority threads... just like WCG's client. This means that while the rest of the system is happy as a clam, the important one is competing head-to-head for processor time with the WCG client, making our renders far less efficient and sometimes causing hangs in the scripts if the processor becomes non-responsive at the wrong time. (remember, these are supposedly dedicated machines.) The developer has promised to consider changing that option (or at least making it possible to customize the setting) so it would run at a higher priority, and then the WCG would not bother it, but it doesn't seem like a super high-priority for them, as not many people are in the same situation. *sigh* Meanwhile, I had to take WCG out of the startup group, and have to monitor the farm for free time, and keep tabs on the artists' plans for it, so I know whether or not I can go ahead and launch the WCG client (by hand, on each machine) and let it run for a while. Good thing my mad management skillz and slick infrastructure choices have given me sufficient free time to pay that much attention. ;-) Well, most of the time... :-/ -CD [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at May 6, 2005 10:42:34 PM] |

Graham,
Great job on the Certificate. I think it looks great! I look forward to someday hagging one on my wall! In a couple of months I look forward to adding a 2 or 3 more PCs to my crew. Maybe then I can break into MOT's top 10. Keep up the good crunching all! |
