Re: Numerous BSOD's, Vista 64

I ran the first option in Prime for an hour and it had no errors. I also ran MemTest86+ for 8 hours straight on the RAM via the boot cd and it did 6 passes with no errors. I'm going to do the Prime test for longer today and see what happens, but at least I'm confident I don't have faulty RAM; just overheating RAM perhaps.

Try one of these. I use the cheaper of the two on my computers and they do help.

How exactly do they fasten into the case? I'm not clear.

Oh, and I ran the first option in the torture test and my computer handled them fine for a total of 4 hours with no warnings or errors. So the CPU is in no danger of overheating anytime soon. It's definitely gotta be the RAM overheating.

What speed do you have the memory running at and what is the voltage you are using for your memory?

Re: Numerous BSOD's, Vista 64

I have left them at the default: 1333. Their voltage is 1.5 volts, with the IOH voltage at 1.060 volts.

Edit: Looks like I was confusing IOH with RAM, since they are listed in the same category in the Green Power Center. Still, an extra fan could only help.

Edit again: Looks like IOH overheating is a common issue with this motherboard, I should look into getting a heatsink for the motherboard's chipset.

Edit again: Actually, I think it is running the RAM at 1066; I just thought it was using the RAM to its fullest capacity but apparently not. Also, I updated the BIOS from 1.20 to 1.60 as I heard that might help resolve some issues.

They just clamp on to the ends of the memory modules. Very simple design that works well.

Ah, nifty. I'll probably just try reusing the fan that came with my case and putting a 90 degree angle bracket on it though.

Oh, and some combination of stuff I did seems to have fixed things, most likely updating the BIOS. I ran the Blend tests for 3 hours straight and it had no errors. I'll put BOINC back on for now and see if random reboots start occuring again, and I'm definitely going to put the fan in anyways because more airflow is better.
