Re: mitigating PV Purgatory

Having PV purgatory is designed into the system, so everyone and I mean everyone can crunch at their own pace at their own volume, long as the (currently 10 or 14 day deadline) is met.

Want to avoid PV jail somewhat... don't load masses of fresh work on Friday afternoon. Many devices, mostly in business, are switched off during the weekend. Any work on there wont get get completed until Monday. Here the shortest possible cache helps to expose the least jobs to be stuck all weekend (nanosecond thought). Work downloaded after Friday is over has a higher degree of chance to get finished by others that too do 24/7, if a quorum of 2 is required.

ciao

OK, I got it. On Monday, I set my additional work buffer to 7 days. On Tuesday, I set it to .5 days. I leave it at .5 days until the next Monday and repeat. That is how I avoid the weekend lag. biggrin tongue

Re: mitigating PV Purgatory

Your strategy causes others to wait, if they do, for up to 7 days. Obviously YOUR immediate validation has prevalence ;>)

So, do zero redundancy projects (all AutoDock based sciences), mostly noone has to have a wingman or choose RICE and HPF2 which validate upon receipt of 10 and 15 of 19, so stragglers mostly do not hold up quorum/validation completion i.e. they are part of the last 9 or 4 respectively.

I'm sure there are more ways, for others not to have to wait on your crunchers.

Obviously (and I'm sure that everyone and everything possible is being done to resolve this), things will get a lot easier when longer WU's can be safely generated AND the deadline date brought forward to the standard 10.

Until then, patience will just have to prevail... Not ideal, I know, although at least we're fairly confident that when a WU goes into PV jail, it'll come out at some point at the other end - providing the credit that everyone is in the hunt for.

Also, I'm sure that things will ease off a little, once the 'mad rush to Gold' has subsided biggrin

If this is in response to my post, I was being facetious. wink I currently have my buffer set to .2 days. I also have 9 pages of PV WU's.

Edited to change "9 days" to "9 pages".
