I've just returned my first 3 BETA WUs, one errored out with the message:
----------------------------------------<core_client_version>6.6.20</core_client_version> <![CDATA[ <stderr_txt> INFO: No state to restore. Start from the beginning. called boinc_finish </stderr_txt> ]]> It appears to have completed at the second attempt, I think. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at May 16, 2009 4:27:41 PM] |

I picked up three of these without even noticing. They show run times of .02, .7, and 3.01 hours. All three validated.
The one that ran .02 hours had a wingman validate theirs with 0.00 hours. Must've been a short WU! The betas look to have gone from one extreme (100+ hour betas) to betas that will finish and report in the time it takes to take a bathroom break. |

With the short run times on the CMD2 WU's, I've been connecting pretty often to download new work. Lucked out and snagged 7 Beta WU's today without even trying. Usually I adjust my cache setting and hope to be lucky enough to grab a Beta.
Shortest one was 1.89h on my faster machine, longest one ran for 3h on my slower machine. Still have one IP. With these seven, I'm now half way to a Beta Badge. Keep them coming! |

Beta badge is really difficult to get.
----------------------------------------I've been crunching for WCG since the beginning and only got my bronze badge 2 week's ago. I think that if you are lucky, you get a lot of Beta and get the badge quicker. If you are not like me, it take a while. |

Hi,
sorry if this was asked before - but why are there HCMD2 beta WUs out there (got 2 today) when the project itself is already running? thanks! |

The Betas are to further refine the chopping up of the work. The initial beta tests had work units that took 200+ hours to run. So the temporary solution is to make small work units.
The long term goal is to figure out how to have longer CMD2 work units without having the excessively long ones. |
