I used to use a few installations of BOINC on the same PC for a easy reason to understand.
----------------------------------------I fill the buffer of 2 installations, then disable network, stop agent, and cut-paste the folder on a USB Key. At work, i cut-paste the folder and run BOINC. When all WU are finished, i stop it and take the folder at home to send results and get some more WU... Why, because my PC hasn't got Internet connection. It used to work ok like that for years. I have not updated BOINC but today, it does not work. When i start a BOINC agent on my PC that has not been installed on it, all WU goes to the status "Detached" with a message in BOINC "cancelled by projet" ! Does something changed on WCG servers ? Because if it is not possible to do like that anymore, i will loose 2 PC at work that are not connected. Did you make sure to take that 'extra' client you port via the USB key to suspend network state and did you maybe hit the update button [accidentally] when the USB key was attached to the sneakernet computer, that has internet too?
----------------------------------------NB: Operating the Update button opens the connection to the servers for 5 minutes, even when network has been suspended in the Activity menu. The logic is that hitting Update is expressing a wish to have a functional connection :D

I will do some tests with "additionnal work buffer=0" because i don't want to loose undreds of WU like yesterday.
